Position Summary
The Chief Engineer oversees all facets of the Engineering department, ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and mechanical systems. This role involves developing, coordinating, and monitoring a comprehensive maintenance program for rooms to guarantee the safety and comfort of both staff and guests. Additionally, the Chief Engineer is responsible for supervising, training, and managing the entire Engineering team. This industry operates continuously, seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.
Physical responsibilities include Exert physical effort in lifting / transporting at least 50 pounds. Push / pull carts and other equipment up to 150 pounds. Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas. Satisfactorily communicate with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding. Work environment - Engineering workshop, all areas of the hotel. Working on stepladders. Job involves working under variable temperature conditions and noise levels, in indoor and outdoor settings, and around fumes and / or odor hazards, dust and / or mite hazards, and chemicals. Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for lengthy periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
Education : High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) : or Work Equivalent
Related Work Experience : Experience in advanced maintenance skills and aptitude plus advanced skills in all aspects of running an engineering department. Experience with modern building controls and maintenance, or any combination of education and experience which provides the above skills, knowledge and ability.
Requires computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred. Good understanding of the English language, good communication skills both written and verbal. Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards. Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Methods, and materials used in general building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, building and electrical units and HVAC. The use and repair of common tools and equipment used in general maintenance. Maintenance and repair of major facilities. Systems design and trouble- shooting. Journeyman skill level in the use of tools and equipment of the maintenance profession.
Supervisory Experience : Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory and maintenance experience.
