Diesel Tech CAT Haul Trucks

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Remove, repair or replace components or piece parts on engines, hydraulic systems, brake systems, electrical systems, air systems, fuel systems, transmissions and related power train systems.
• Troubleshoot and inspect equipment using testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Write detailed and accurate service reports stating the nature of the job and work performed.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

• Review data from troubleshooting and inspection processes to determine detailed, accurate and cost-effective job estimates including parts orders.
• Operate mining and construction equipment.
• Work with a positive attitude and with a spirit of cooperation.

 QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Ability to work in any position on a piece of equipment.
• Ability to read and understand English.
• Ability to read and understand parts books, service manuals and electrical and hydraulic schematics.
• Ability to read and comprehend service literature and basic tools.
• Ability to read a load chart.
• Know and understand basic arithmetic.
• Ability to safely rig or hook for lifting any part or component of a machine.
• Ability to think and work through difficult projects or problems.
• Ability to write meaningful and legible service reports.
• Know and understand the various types of systems on a multitude of different pieces of equipment.
• Ability to work in a productive manner to complete daily job assignments.
• Own or ability to obtain required tooling.

 PREFERRED:

• Diesel Certification.
• Able to perform DOT inspections.
• CDL or ability to obtain.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Work schedule includes seven 14-hour shifts over a two-week pay period, rotating day and night shifts; and additional shifts as needed.
• Exposure to grease, oil, dirt, loud noises, extreme weather conditions, etc.
• Prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, etc. for extended periods of time.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Use hands for grasping, pushing and pulling including fine manipulation.
• Use hands and feet frequently in repetitive movement.

Placement at a technician level is based on knowledge, skills, abilities, and prior experience. Levels include:

• Apprentice I: Basic understanding of mechanical tools and service procedures. One year of experience in working on heavy equipment or possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
• Apprentice II: Basic component identification, understanding the functions of various Caterpillar mechanical systems and ability to perform various mechanical procedures. Diesel certificate from a trade school and/or two years of heavy equipment experience.
• Technician: Understand the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of various Caterpillar mechanical systems and can troubleshoot and function as a technician with little or no direction and/or assistance.  Four years of heavy equipment experience.
• Master: Complete understanding and the advanced ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various Caterpillar mechanical systems. Can troubleshoot and function as a technician with no direction and/or assistance. Must be able to mentor new employees and help train apprentices. Ten years of heavy equipment experience.
