Athletic Director

A K-12 day and boarding school located in Northeast Pennsylvania, Wyoming Seminary seeks a proven, mission-driven professional to lead Sem Athletics at this exciting juncture in the School’s 180-year history.

The Athletic Director (AD) is a 12-month administrative position and reports directly to the Head of the Upper School. Guided by our mission and our core values, the Athletic Director will be a visible model of purpose and excellence and will represent the highest qualities of integrity, responsibility, and sportsmanship throughout all levels of the Upper School athletics program.

The ideal candidate will balance long-term strategic thinking with attention to daily operations and will be a skilled communicator, an enthusiastic collaborator, and a passionate builder of programs.

Partnering with other senior administrators, the Athletic Director will support the enrollment and marketing strategies of our athletic programs; engage with current, former, and prospective constituents; coordinate with leaders of the academic programs; manage our athletic facilities; and work with all of our coaches to attract talented students.

Responsibilities

  • Advance Wyoming Seminary’s mission by building and maintaining a healthy and strong athletic culture.
  • Attract, develop, and mentor coaches who are passionate about their work and believe in the life-changing opportunity of a Sem education.
  • Work with coaches and marketing to promote Sem athletics to prospective and current families as well as a wider audience.
  • Oversee Athletics Department employees, which includes the Associate Director of Athletics, Director of Athletic Training and staff, Director of the Wrestling program, the Strength and Conditioning Coach, and administrative assistant.
  • Communicate regularly and work collaboratively with the Director of Facilities Operations to ensure clear alignment on scheduled facilities use, as well as proper maintenance, repairs and improvements as required.
  • Help develop and regulate the budget and appropriate spending for equipment, facilities, salaries, officials, and more.
  • Ensure compliance by coaches and Athletic Department staff with all Wyoming Seminary policies, procedures, and practices, as well as those required by athletic associations (PIAA and others) and/or state laws or regulations.
  • Conduct ongoing professional development for coaches and student-athletes on topics integral to a safe and positive athletics program, such as anti-bullying and hazing, nutrition and sleep, athletic training and treatment, body image, strength and conditioning, and leadership.
  • Conduct athletic program orientations and communicate schedules, program information and expectations to participants and families.
  • Meet and communicate regularly with coaches to establish competition and practice schedules as well as long range planning for the sport.
  • Generate and manage the athletic and physical education calendar, overseeing the scheduling of events and athletic competitions including transportation and officials
  • Hold all student-athletes and coaches accountable for upholding the values of integrity, fair play, and responsible behavior; work with School administrators on the proper response when these expectations are not met.
  • Coordinate athletic assemblies, awards, and Monday Memo submissions.
  • Coordinate and be the point person for facilities use for summer camps and programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with preference to one in Athletics, Physical Education, or a closely related field. Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum of five years of teaching/coaching experience.
  • A proven track record as a coach and/or athletics administrator in developing and improving programs both at a strategic and operational level.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment including coaches, school administrators, students, parents, and the public.
  • A collaborative leadership style that includes strong interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and an ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical, administrative, and multitasking skills.
