Upper School Counselor
Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School seeks an Upper School Counselor to work closely with parents, faculty, administration, and staff, providing a safe and healthy academic, athletic, and boarding environment. The successful candidate will effectively locate and utilize resources to support students' wellbeing. This is a full-time position.
Applicants must be dynamic individuals who are passionate about their wellness and mental health for a high school community, collaborative and innovative in their approach to education and professional development, and able to embrace and support the diversity of our student body.
Responsibilities:
- Provides individual counseling to students for scheduled and drop-in sessions. Provides small group and crisis counseling as appropriate.
- Works with the school and the student’s family to refer the student to an outside community professional as needed.
- Acts as a liaison between outside clinical professionals and the school to coordinate care and support of the student.
- Coordinates the continuity of counseling and wellness services with various professionals inside and outside the school, including clinical professionals as necessary.
- Leads Counseling Team meetings three times per term. These meetings include Head of Upper School, Dean of Students, Academic Dean, Director of Health Services, Director of Residential Life, and Associate Counselor.
- Serves as a leader within the Crisis Response Team.
- Contributes to and helps further develop campus Wellness Programming.
- Educates our community about student mental health and related challenges, such as anxiety, depression, mood and/or eating disorders, and substance abuse.
- Collaborates with administration, teachers, parents, and outside resources to design ongoing professional development to support student needs.
- Works within a boarding school schedule including some evenings and weekend duties.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work
- Appropriate licensure in the state of Pennsylvania
- Experience in an educational setting with a diverse community including both day and boarding students
- Experience working cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administration in support of the mission of the school
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ongoing growth and development as a professional
- A lively sense of humor, strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and a willingness to become a fully invested member of our community are essential
