We’re hiring a Porter Manager to Live. Work. Explore. at the south rim of the Grand Canyon!

Job Summary: Manage porter and kennel staff. Ensure cleanliness of indoor and outdoor public lodging areas, light repair to guest rooms, and snow removal on walkways.

The Details:

Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round

Pay: $ 47,013.08

Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

• Train new staff and schedule staff to cover all lodge areas for a minimum of two shifts daily.
• Maintain payroll budget within established plan.
• Always manage cleanliness and upkeep of public areas according to established standards and for National Park Service Concessions evaluations.
• Assign/manage light repairs of guest rooms, floor care and other projects such as snow removal and heat treatment of guest rooms.
• Manage Grand Canyon Kennel’s 7 day a week operation and 2 to 3 full time Kennel Attendants. Work with Kennel lead for scheduling/supply orders.
• Order porter supplies and maintain supply budget.
• Responsible for porter department key control, radios and other issued equipment.
• Handle administrative duties such payroll timekeeping, personnel forms, comment cards, etc.
• Be a role model for all safety, risk management and environmental policies daily, enforcing policies with staff as needed.
• Maintain a courteous and helpful behavior towards guests and fellow employees. Exercise tact and discretion always, while on duty.
• Responsible for maintenance of assigned vehicles, including maintenance schedule, cleanliness, and safety.
• Responsible for preventive care and maintenance of assigned equipment such as vacuums, floor care equipment, and snow blowers.
• Communicate maintenance problems to Engineering and follow up with issues in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• Previous housekeeping, porter/janitorial, or supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of and experience with floor care equipment (vacuums, carpet extractors), snow blowers, and heat treatment equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and maintain high morale among staff; previous supervisory experience is preferred.
• Ability to effectively listen to, understand and respond to concerns raised by employees and guests.
• Ability to train new employees in procedures and standards.
• Good communication skills and ability to follow radio communication procedures.
• Possess valid Arizona Driver’s License and comply with the Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy.
• Willingness to be on call and work any shift if necessary.
• Knowledge of Xanterra South Rim property layout.
  
  

Physical Requirements include:

• Able to meet all physical requirements of the job, which include repetitive motion of all extremities and the back including continual kneeling, bending, twisting, lifting, pushing and long periods of standing/walking.
• Ability to maintain high quality of work & high energy while taking more than 15,000-20,000 steps per workday at an elevation of 7,000 ft.
