Job Summary
Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for the open position of Security Officer. The Security Officer (the Officer) is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment within the parking garage premises. This role requires vigilance, professionalism, and the ability to respond promptly and effectively to security concerns. The officer will monitor activities, enforce parking regulations, deter criminal activity, and ensure the safety of students, employees, visitors and property. AA/EEOE
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid armed security officer license/certification.
- Current firearm permit in compliance with state laws.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Experience:
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military preferred.
- Familiarity with parking garage operations is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Description
1. Surveillance and Monitoring:
- Patrol the parking garage on foot and/or by vehicle to ensure safety and prevent unauthorized activity.
- Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, and other security equipment.
- Identify and address any suspicious behavior, theft, vandalism, or unauthorized access.
2. Customer Assistance:
- Provide assistance to students, employees and visitors, such as vehicle jump-starts, directions, or addressing safety concerns.
- Respond to inquiries and ensure a positive experience while maintaining security protocols.
3. Incident Response:
- Respond promptly and notify XUPD of incidents such as accidents, medical emergencies, or disturbances.
- Manage situations involving theft, property damage, or confrontations professionally and within legal limits.
- Liaise with XUPD and local law enforcement or emergency services as required.
4. Weapons Handling and Safety:
- Carry and maintain a licensed firearm in compliance with all state and local laws.
- Adhere to company policies and regulations regarding the use of force.
5. Report Writing and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and detailed incident reports.
- Document daily activities, security breaches, or safety hazards and report them to management.
6. Parking Regulations Enforcement:
- Ensure compliance with parking rules, including preventing unauthorized parking or enforcing payment requirements.
- Issue warnings or citations for violations, if applicable.
7. Safety and Risk Mitigation:
- Conduct routine checks of the parking facility, including elevators, stairwells, and lighting, to identify and address safety risks.
- Secure access points and monitor entry/exit during operational hours.
