JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled Tool and Die Maker to join our manufacturing team. The Tool and Die Maker will be responsible for fabricating, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and other equipment used in the production process. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of machining, blueprint reading, and metalworking techniques, and will be committed to producing high-quality tools and dies to meet production demands.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED (required). Apprenticeship or formal training in tool and die making preferred.
- 5 years of experience in tool and die making, or related field (minimum). Experience with CNC machinery is required.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficient in blueprint reading and technical drawing interpretation.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, including milling, grinding, and turning.
- Skilled in welding, metal forming, and heat treatment processes.
- Ability to use precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.) to ensure accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality control.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Tool & Die Fabrication: Design, fabricate, and repair complex tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures based on engineering specifications and blueprints.
- Machining & Precision Work: Operate CNC machines, lathes, grinders, and other precision tools to create or repair metal parts.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read, interpret and engineer drawings, schematics, and technical specifications to understand tool and die requirements.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with existing tools and dies, making necessary repairs or adjustments to maintain functionality and quality.
- Material Selection & Handling: Select appropriate materials for tooling based on required specifications, ensuring proper heat treatment and finishing.
- Quality Control: Conduct quality checks on tools and dies to ensure they meet precision standards and specifications. Perform routine inspections and adjustments to maintain tolerances.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production teams, and other staff to ensure timely tool creation and resolution of any production issues.
- Maintenance: Maintain tool and die-making equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition and adhering to safety standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of tool designs, repairs, maintenance schedules, and work completed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform detailed work.
- Ability to work in a noisy, industrial environment with appropriate safety equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position will be performed in a manufacturing facility.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, including safety glasses, gloves, steel toed shoes and hearing protection.
- Travel will be required to troubleshoot tooling issues.
