What are the responsibilities and job description for the Usher (Part-Time) position at Xcel Energy Center?

The Usher role works with and reports to the Guest Experience Manager/Lead/Supervisor on duty. Responsibilities encompass a variety of duties including but not limited to facility entrance including scanning tickets, directional assistance, and working as a section usher. Most importantly, provides excellent customer service while exceeding the guest’s expectations during events.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the entry process: verification of valid tickets, allowing guests event access, scanner and pedestal usage/knowledge, providing general directions, and assisting with handouts including lifting and moving boxes to various locations.
    • Able to read and verify tickets, understand mobile ticket entry, and problem-solve scanner/pedestal concerns.
    • Able to assist with directions to general seat locations and specific building locations.
  • Responsible for working in a variety of ancillary areas including stairwells, and escalator directional, assisting with line control, working in the lobbies, and providing breaks to other staff.
  • Work as a Section Usher.
    • Verification of tickets for assigned sections, directions to specific seats, and assisting with resolving ticket issues and those requiring special seating needs.
    • Stand at the top of assigned section monitoring assigned work area, ensuring building policies are being enforced including but not limited to fan behavior/safety, curtain closure, guest concerns, etc.
    • Periodic section checks which include walking down and up stairs ensuring guests are complying with facility rules, such as no smoking, using vulgar language, looking for contraband, and checking for safety hazards.
  • Responding to guest needs and being able to seek resolutions independently.

  • Responds in a timely manner to the guest's needs and report any concerns to the supervisor.
  • Identify and respond to emergencies and remain calm while following proper procedures during evacuations. Direct guests to the designated safety area or nearest exit, involving Security and supervisors as appropriate.
  • Build relationships with the guests in assigned locations.
  • Attends the pre-shift meeting for each event.
  • Ability to transport guests via a wheelchair to locations within the facility.
  • Available for a minimum of four shifts per month except in March where you need to be available 8 times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • At least 16 years old

Knowledge & Experience

  • Customer service experience is preferred but not required.
  • Basic problem-solving skills.
  • Usually works under direct or close supervision.
  • Able to follow instructions and respond to supervisor's direction.
  • Able to always work with the guests and staff professionally.

  • Fan-friendly attitude and willingness to initiate a conversation with the guests.
  • Able to work within a team and a service-oriented environment.

  • Able to deal with frequent change.

Work Conditions

  • Available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Available to work Minnesota Wild hockey games, concerts, and other events.
  • Able to work all Usher 1-2 positions within the facility.
  • Ability to stand up to 4-6 hours at a time.
  • Ability to work in an elevator for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • May push and pull wheelchairs up to 300 lbs.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather-coat will be provided.
  • Able to walk up and down steps.
  • Able to read mobile tickets and direct guests appropriately.
