Director of Software Development
Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Software Development to lead and transform a critical IT function that plays a key role in supporting its eCommerce business. This position requires a strong leader with a deep technical background, proven experience in managing teams, and the ability to engage and influence executive leadership.
The Director will define the vision and strategic direction for unifying multiple businesses and web stores under a common architecture. Additionally, they will oversee large-scale transformational projects, including the elimination of technical debt and monolithic technology, in favor of a cutting-edge tech stack. The ideal candidate will be results-driven, resilient under pressure, and able to drive meaningful change through autonomous leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with executive leadership and business stakeholders to align on strategic technical initiatives that support long-term business goals.
- Lead digital transformation efforts, including the transition from monolithic platforms to modern warehouse and fulfillment systems.
- Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for adopting new technical stacks, including the migration from Perl to Oracle NetSuite and Adobe Commerce.
- Build and lead a Center of Excellence (COE) and a centralized software development team of 8-10 developers, supplemented by an outsourced QA function.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Ensure the sustainability, maintenance, and enhancement of eCommerce web stores and warehouse fulfillment operations.
- Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful implementation.
- Evaluate and implement best practices for software development, testing, deployment, and process improvements.
- Establish a metrics-driven monitoring solution to track development progress and enable continuous improvement.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to key stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with third-party vendors and partners to support successful project delivery.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 10 years of experience in senior software development roles, with a strong track record of managing and leading development teams.
- Extensive experience with eCommerce platforms, particularly Oracle NetSuite and Adobe Commerce, or other ERP and eCommerce technologies.
- Strong background in custom code development (specific programming languages are not required, but Perl or Adobe is a plus).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
