About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Manager, R&D Financial Planning & Analysis to join our growing Financial Planning & Analysis team. The Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis will support the R&D finance function and serve as a business partner to the Research & Development organization. This role will support Xenon’s growing portfolio of development programs by enabling effective financial forecasting, reporting and analysis of operating results to enable sound business decisions. This is a hands-on role which will work cross-functionally across Xenon.
This position reports to the Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis and will be based out of our Boston, USA office in Needham, MA.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, R&D Financial Planning & Analysis to join our growing Financial Planning & Analysis team. The Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis will support the R&D finance function and serve as a business partner to the Research & Development organization. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as financial business partner to the Clinical organization, with a focus on clinical operations to drive effective business decision making; clear understanding of current and future status of ongoing non-clinical studies and clinical trials activities to drive the timely preparation of budgetary, forecast, long-range planning assumptions and cost inputs to the overall planning process, and challenge assumptions to ensure sound financial decisions and to achieve corporate objectives and targets.
- Supports all budgeting and forecasting initiatives for the Clinical function, including monthly and quarterly reporting of financial results for management and department heads.
- Partner with CRO to meet internal financial deliverables.
- Manage the quarterly forecasting process by partnering with Clinical managers to align the forecast with the most current business assumptions.
- Manage accounting close activities including accruals, audit support, analytics reporting, and collaborate with accounting team.
- Review and assess proposed financial terms and costs for vendor contracts and support contract negotiations to ensure sound financial decisions.
- Provide in-depth analysis of business results and explain variances, identify emerging risks and opportunities and regularly communicate findings to the Clinical team.
- Develop and maintain financial models for clinical studies
- Assist with developing dashboards and advanced analytics to support decision making; contribute reports for the consolidation of the monthly and quarterly reporting packages
- Actively develop and maintain collaborative relationships across the company to effectively achieve project/program and Corporate goals.
- In collaboration with the Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, continuously support and/or optimize processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Act in accordance with Company policies, including, for example, the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and ensure policies are understood and followed by direct reports, if any.
- Other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required.
- Professional designation (CPA, MBA or CFA) preferred.
- Minimum of 5-8 years’ related finance and management experience.
- Biotech experience in a development-stage company or pharmaceutical experience is required.
- Exceptional financial modelling and analysis skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent oral and written communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to build credibility and trust inside the Company.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with sound business judgement, with an ability to constructively challenge assumptions.
- Experience with Adaptive Planning or similar budgeting software and tools.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage concurrent deliverables and work effectively with minimal direction in a challenging, high performance and changing environment.
- Strong aptitude with financial tools and systems, experience with implementations and system enhancement projects.
- A hands-on approach to working with R&D groups and other stakeholders across the organization in addressing challenges and developing solutions.
