SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist or Scientist to join our Biophysical Characterization group. She/he will report to the Associate Director of Analytical Development and Biophysical Characterization as a part of the CMC team. This role will focus on characterizing and analyzing therapeutic proteins using various analytical, capillary-based, chromatography-based, and biophysical techniques from early discovery to early development. The successful candidate will work closely with senior scientists to support multiple research programs while developing technical expertise and independence.
Job Responsibilities
- Execute analytical wet lab experiments for characterization of therapeutic proteins including antibodies, cytokines, and multi-specific proteins.
- Analyze molecules using various chromatographic and biophysical techniques.
- Perform method development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Perform pre-developability screening and studies in support of Discovery and Research.
- Design and execute studies to provide an initial assessment of the stability of therapeutic candidates including accelerated stability, thermal stability, pH stability, and forced degradation studies within the CMC team.
- Perform developability assessments of therapeutic candidates including aggregation propensity, conformational stability, chemical stability, and forced degradation studies as part of the CMC team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Discovery, Research, Development, and Manufacturing.
- Generate comprehensive stability data packages to support candidate selection.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, maintain detailed laboratory records, and present findings and recommendations to project teams.
Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related field.
- 3-7 years of relevant laboratory experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
- Hands-on experience with protein characterization techniques, particularly:
- Thermal stability (DSF, DSC)
- Physical stability (Solubility, MALS, DLS/SLS)
- HPLC and UPLC-based chromatography (SEC, SMAC, RP, IEX, HIC)
- Capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS, cIEF)
- Non-specificity (ELISA, CIC)
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent documentation practices and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience presenting scientific data to diverse audiences.
Preferred Additional Experience
- Experience in a startup environment.
- Experience with therapeutic protein development in a CMC setting.
- Familiarity with binding methods (SPR, BLI).
- Familiarity with spectroscopy (UV, FL, CD, FTIR).
