Position Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative manufacturing designs and solutions to shape our factory into a factory of the future. You will work closely with our team of engineers and managers to ensure that we have the best configuration, tools, and methodologies to manufacture boats as efficiently and as high quality as possible. The Job would consist of three main duties and responsibilities; System engineering, Manufacturing engineering, and then the last is Tooling and Fixturing design.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- System Engineering would include purchasing and implementing new machinery such as Roll benders, New Press brakes, Plasma Tables, and we are looking to add welding robots and sanding robots in the future.
- ·Manufacturing Engineering responsibilities would include completing and modifying layouts to better improve the flow of the plant, running Kaizan Events, using six sigma and other lean manufacturing tools to lessen our Takt time and balance our line
- Tooling and Fixturing design and implementation would include designing jigs and fixtures to replace tape measures and human error with fixtures that will ensure quality in the manufacturing process. Designing go/no go gauges, designing safety equipment to ensure a safe working environment, and then lastly designing new infrastructure in the plant to open new possibilities of processes and methods to make our parts faster and easier with better quality.
- · Design and develop mechanical/electrical systems and components using SolidWorks software.
- · Responsible for generating, developing, and presenting original and unique manufacturing design ideas in response to marketing-based project development goals.
- · Conduct research and analysis to identify new manufacturing opportunities and improve existing processes.
- · Create detailed drawings and specifications for manufacturing and assembly on current and future projects.
- Conduct testing and validation of designs to ensure that they meet ISO, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
- Perform 1st article inspections on all new equipment and designs to confirm improvements to quality and efficiency.
- · Interacts and provides technical support to manufacturing.
- · Identify existing plant improvements.
- · Creates project documentation including Bill of Materials, spare parts lists, operation and maintenance manuals, assembly procedures and check sheets, repair procedures, management reports, and project schedules if needed.
- · Assists in the development of and participates in the implementation of continuous improvement projects.
- · Use Lean and Six Sigma tools to analyze product and process, identify improvement opportunities, implement plans for enhancement and ensure improvements are sustained.
- · Calculate dimensions, allowances, and specifications per standard procedures or general design knowledge of shop capabilities when standard procedures do not exist.
- · Performs other engineering-related tasks as required by engineering manager.
Requirements
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong communication, problem solving, planning and organizing required.
- Ability to communicate technical aspects to a nontechnical audience required.
- Knowledge of engineering and technical principles required.
- Ability to participate in team projects and meetings required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
- Familiarity with standard fabrication procedures preferred.
- Strong competency with fine measuring equipment including tape measures, dial indicators, hardness testers, and etc.
- Previous experience in aluminum structure design and fabrication preferred.
- Lean and Six Sigma experience preferred.
- In depth understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.Familiar with 3D software (SolidWorks/Catia/ProE/Inventor/UG/AutoCAD).
- · The ability and willingness to take independent action and complete job tasks with minimal instruction.
- · CNC and Automation knowledge for press brakes, 3D printers, plasma cutter, and tube benders would be preferred.
- · FEA, CFD, and other computational analysis experience preferred.
- · Complete project responsibilities within scope, budget, and schedule.
- · Ability to optimize designs based on available budget, time to completion, and resources to complete projects on time and on budget.
- · Hobbies or Interests outside of work are a must; a passion for life is as important to us as a passion for the recreational boating industry.
Conditions and Equipment:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering from an BET Accredited University.
- Works with AutoCAD and MS Office products.
- Normal office conditions apply.
