Silicon Photonics Active Component Designer
- At least 5 years of industrial / company experience in silicon photonics with a focus on active component design.
We are looking for an experienced Silicon Photonics Active Component (PIC) Designer to drive the design, development, and characterization of active photonic components within our cutting-edge photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for advanced optical communications. In this role, you will design, optimize, and characterize active devices such as Mach-Zehnder modulators, ring modulators, and high-speed photodiodes. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure high-performance and scalable photonic solutions.
Key Responsibilities :
Lead the design and development of active silicon photonic components, including modulators (Mach-Zehnder and resonant), and high-speed photodiodes.Perform and oversee simulations and modeling for active photonic structures, ensuring optimal performance and manufacturability.Collaborate with fabrication and process teams to address design constraints and optimize for process compatibility.Define testing methodologies for active components and work with testing teams to validate performance, analyze data, and make improvements.Stay informed about industry advancements and emerging technologies in silicon photonics, bringing innovative approaches to the design team.Document design processes, specifications, and results, supporting knowledge transfer and future product enhancements.Mentor and support junior designers, fostering a collaborative and growth-focused team environment.Requirements :
Technical Qualifications :
Educational Background : Master’s or Ph.D. in Photonics or related fields.
Experience :
At least 5 years of industrial experience in silicon photonics with a focus on active component design.Proven track record of designing, simulating, and optimizing active photonic devices in PICs.In-depth understanding of active photonic design principles, including issues of bandwidth, linearity, control, and resonant tuning.Worked on several tapeouts for foundries or fabrication environmentSkills :
Simulation & Design Tools : Proficiency in photonic simulation and design software such as Lumerical (FDTD, MODE, DEVICE), Tidy3D, and / or Ansys HFSS.Fabrication Knowledge : Familiarity with silicon photonics fabrication processes, design rules, and process limitations, along with a practical understanding of process variations and their impact on device performance. Preference will be given to candidates who have contributed to tapeouts of active devices with multiple SiPho foundries.Data Analysis & Optimization : Skilled in data analysis and scripting languages (Python, MATLAB) for design refinement and optimization based on testing results.Leadership & Soft Skills :
Communication : Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and technical reporting.Problem Solving : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to overcoming design challenges.Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in scaling PIC designs for production and familiarity with industry standards in silicon photonics for data communications or telecommunications applications.Experience performing thermo-optic modeling of PICsExperience working with packaging and ASIC design teams to co-optimize high speed optoelectronic interfaces.Experience with statistical analysis methods for applications ranging from data analysis to yield forecasting.Experience with scripted layout tools such as Virtuoso (SKILL), GDSFactory, etc.Salary range of $200,000 - $220,000 , plus we offer competitive bonus and equity. Salary range based on experience, education and location.
