Description

This job is for someone with strong skills and experience in irrigation work. You will install, fix, and take care of irrigation systems at buildings and properties owned by Lee County. You may also help with plumbing jobs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fix and take care of irrigation systems across Lee County.
  • Install new irrigation systems.
  • Give cost estimates for jobs.
  • Fill out daily work reports, material lists, invoices, and time cards.
  • Keep track of tools and supplies in your work truck.
  • Help with plumbing jobs when needed.
  • Do other tasks as assigned.
  • Fix problems in high-voltage pump systems.
  • Repair and program 24-volt irrigation controllers.
  • Design new irrigation systems.
  • Install and replace submersible pumps.
  • Fix and install large PVC pipes (up to 12 inches wide).
  • Fix or change circuit boards in irrigation systems.
  • Fix clean water filter systems and underground pump systems.
  • Use computers to program Toro, Rainbird, Hunter, and SitePro controllers.
  • Use heavy tools like backhoes and leak detectors.
  • Teach others how to use irrigation systems.
  • Help your supervisor and take charge when they are away.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • High school diploma or GED, and two years of experience in irrigation or similar work.
  • Three years of irrigation experience is a plus.
  • Experience using a small track hoe is also helpful.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • You must pass a background check (fingerprint and criminal history) and get clearance from local law enforcement.

Supplemental Information

  • You need to know how to follow plumbing and irrigation rules and use tools like hand tools, digging tools, and sewer machines.
  • You must be able to read blueprints and work in hard-to-reach places like crawl spaces or high places.
  • You must be able to work in hot, cold, or bad weather.
  • You may be asked to work before, during, or after an emergency.

Work Schedule

  • Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
