Job Summary
As a Machine Vision Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of custom machine vision systems within industrial automation projects. You will be responsible for ensuring these systems meet all technical specifications, adhere to industry standards, and satisfy customer requirements. This role requires close collaboration with engineering teams, vendors, and customers to deliver high-quality, production-ready solutions.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Take ownership of the design and development of machine vision systems for custom industrial automation projects.
- Conceptualize, design, and confirm technical specifications and bills of material for machine vision systems.
- Provide oversight for equipment assessment, ordering, and verification, ensuring that final hardware and software meet customer needs.
- Ensure that designs align with Catalyx and industry standards and meet all specified requirements.
- Oversee and support the development, testing, and installation phases, ensuring systems are production-ready and meet design specifications.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for machine vision system design, providing guidance in risk evaluation and technical matters.
- Act as the escalation point for machine vision-related issues during the build, installation, and warranty phases.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on procurement, training, and upskilling, and assist in sales technical meetings as needed.
- Meet with vendors to confirm component selection and stay informed on new technologies in machine vision and control systems.
- Analyze existing procedures, suggest improvements, and support the creation of design and technical documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution (vision component preferred).
- AIA CVP-Basic Certification (AIA CVP-Advanced Certification preferred).
- Availability to work evening and weekend hours or varying work patterns depending on project needs.
- Availability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Possession of a valid driver's license that is in good standing.
- Experience with front-end GUI development using Cognex Designer and data management, preferably in SQL.
- Proven experience in designing and developing machine vision systems within industrial automation (robot guidance experience is a plus)
- Experience with existing Machine Vision Platforms such as Cognex, Keyence, Halcon or OpenCV (Cognex platform preferred)
- Experience implementing projects in a regulated/validated environment (GAMP5 approach experience is preferred).
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming languages and machine vision technologies (C#, C or Python preferred)
- Experience with training AI neural networks (Cognex ViDi Deep Learning preferred)
- Advanced understanding and knowledge of computer vision solutions and principles including image acquisition, optics, lighting, algorithm development, object detection, segmentation, and recognition, 3D imaging, and metrology inspections
- Expert problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure situations demonstrating a flexible work style.
