Assist the Y-12 Engineering Division Managed Design Director in establishing improved work processes and coordinating efforts to increase group effectiveness. Provides direct leadership of organizational activities, including activities with multiple functions to accomplish a common goal. Responsible for setting standards and performance expectations across organizations and/or programs. Provides strategic leadership or vision to the organization. Assists the Director withdeveloping the ACB for the fiscal year. Typically provides cross-organizational expertise. Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive technical activities. Typically, has demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature technical judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented technical problems, determining program objectives and requirements, and developing standards and guides for diverse activities. Drives complex engineering projects from concept development through detailed design and on to completion. Implements company policies and makes recommendations on development of new policies. Sets the safety expectations for the organization and promotes application of lessons learned. Coordinates with other Engineering division leads to address Mission Engineering objectives. Represents Mission Engineering and CNS with external stakeholders, NPO, and DNFSB on assigned areas, both with technical presentations and formal reports. Provides leadership and personal interaction to promote positive work environment and encourages individual involvement. Shares own expertise for the good of the organization. Develops, mentors, and coaches others.

- Bachelor's degree in engineering/physical science discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimumof 12 years of relevant experience
- OR a Master's degree in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimumof 10years of relevant experience
- OR a PhDin engineering/physical science discipline with a minimumof 7years of relevant experience.
In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)
- In-depth knowledge of business and operations support, resources, practices, processes, and policies needed to solve problems and accomplish required activities within a disciplined scheduled framework
- Extensive technical expertise and full knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to various engineering disciplines.
- A proven track record in both deep subject matter expertise and in leading multi-discipline teams.
- Requires the ability to apply technical skills of engineering to the design, safety, and operation of facilities and/or processes within facilities; ability to prepare, read, and/or interpret complex engineering drawings and analysis; ability to conduct formal presentations to plant personnel and other interested parties; ability to review projects for technical accuracy; ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word
- Experience in identifying challenges in existing systems and work processes, then initiating and leading cross-functional teams to develop optimized processes
- The ability to develop comprehensive strategies for implementation of subject; effectively communicate and structure messages to achieve end strategy; and maintain cognizance of the team progress along with necessary adjustments
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively motivate and manage personnel, coordinate and resolve programmatic positions with peer managers, and engage other organizations as necessary
