Job Purpose
Resource & Support Specialists work directly with teens and young adults who participate in Y.O.U. programs to provide initial and ongoing wrap around services to empower young people in reaching their personal goals and career aspirations, to uplift strengths, to address barriers and challenges to successful completion of work experiences and/or training, and to equip young people to attain employment. Resource & Support Specialists also provide support, guidance, and mentorship to teens and young adults in the program and community. Resource & Support Specialists are an integral part of our operations, essential to our vision and mission, and create lasting impressions on youth in the community, pushing them forward to meet their future career goals.
Essential Functions
- Meet with prospective participants to determine personal goals, career aspirations, barriers, and other information as needed.
- Guide participants through the identification of goals, barriers, potential challenges, strengths, and skills on their path to individual success.
- Ensure the accurate completion of the Comprehensive Case Management Employment Program (CCMEP) Stepping Stones to Success assessment and Individual Opportunity Plan (IOP).
- Provide coaching, advocacy, and barrier remediation to teens, young adults, and their families, including referring youth to internal/external resources to help them overcome those challenges.
- Document all conversations (including, but not limited to emails, in-person conversations, presentations, phone calls, text messages, and video conferences) with or about participants in Y.O.U.’s data management systems in alignment with Y.O.U.’s standard operating procedures and deadlines.
- Provide reports of delivered services as requested and needed.
- Enter and ensure all data, assessments, goal information, employment and/or education attainment into Y.O.U. data management systems to keep Y.O.U. compliant with all required public/government management information systems.
- Work in partnership with program leaders, administrative staff, and seasonal staff to provide wraparound support to participants throughout the enrollment and work experience phases of youth employment programs.
- Facilitate and participate in engaging Eligibility/Intake, Job Coach Training, and Orientation Sessions, and SYEP worksite visits for all participants of SYEP alongside Job Coaches and other program staff.
- Employ creative strategies to reinforce the learnings from work experience and continue to address life skills and career exploration and planning for SYEP participants.
- Facilitate engaging Youth Workforce Development Workshops in partnership with local community partners throughout the school year.
- Work in partnership with Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) staff, Employer Relations staff, and PACE staff to provide career counseling and coaching/mentoring to teens and young adults.
- Support participant efforts to obtain employment and/or enroll in post-secondary education as needed.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with partner organizations such as schools, businesses, government entities, and other family/youth serving organizations/groups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or other related field from an accredited college or university preferred or 4 years of work experience as detailed below can be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. High School Diploma required.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience in human services, social work, education, or related field.
- Familiar with Cleveland’s network of social services providers.
- Must have valid transportation to/from Y.O.U. offices, partner organizations, and other community-based locations to meet with clients.
- Must pass a background BCI/FBI check as a condition of employment.

Work Environment
- This position is hybrid with frequent travel to community locations up to 50% of the time. During the Summer Youth Employment Program (April - July), the position is scheduled at the summer office 5 days a week. The work pace for this position is sometimes fast paced where work is required for up to 2 hours at a time. Moderate supervision from managers with intermittent prompts is expected. Social interaction with clients and team members is required frequently. Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours. The environment in which the job is performed outside a normal office space may include exposure to extreme temperature, noise, heights, or other hazards. All remain the same for any additional requirements for training.
- When working remotely, must have a workspace free of distractions and background noise (Pets, children, television, radio, etc.)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.50 - $20.50 per hour
Expected hours: 37.50 per week
