What You'll Do
Industrial Hygiene (IH) technicians perform sampling, monitoring, and data collection activities to evaluate potential health and safety concerns. IH technicians often serve as the primary interface between the Safety and Industrial Hygiene Department and the workforce. Duties of the IH technician include routine and non-routine surveys, job coverage, and assisting industrial hygienists with hazard assessments and fit test of respirators. IH technician duties include:
- Select, calibrate, and operate a wide variety of sampling and monitoring equipment appropriate for the hazard(s) being evaluated.
- Interpret field data and assess site conditions in order to notify industrial hygienist and facility personnel of potential health and safety issues.
- Accurately calculate sample results and create industrial hygiene documents in a manner that maintains technical and scientific validity.
- Anticipate, recognize, and evaluate potential job hazards and make accurate and informed decisions with limited input from others.
- Assist in the development of corrective measures in order to mitigate and control job hazards.
- Participate in job planning and procedure development.
- Serve as a member of the emergency response cadre.
- Perform tight fitting respirator fit tests.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Associate's degree in related discipline.
- Two or more years of relevant education, training, and/or progressive experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
- Requires the ability to work overtime and remain flexible to work an alternate shift
- Must have good written and oral communication skills
- Must be able to interpret and implement NIOSH and OSHA sampling methods
- Must be competent in the use of Microsoft Office and other software packages
- Must be observant, organized, and detail oriented
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., 1 year job-related experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2)
Preferred Job Requirements
- Previous Industrial Hygiene Technician experience.
- Prior work experience at a U.S. Department of Energy nuclear facility.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
