What You'll Do
The candidate is responsible for providing guidance and leadership on technical issues and overall strategies related to Nuclear Criticality Safety for the Y-12 plan. Advises the Director, Nuclear Engineering Safety as well as the managers within the Nuclear Engineering Safety directorate on issues related to analysis, implementation, and issue resolution. Responsible for peer review of NCS analysis and documents, ensuring necessary technical considerations have been incorporated to ensure safe operations. The candidate will assist with developing training for incoming Criticality Safety Engineers as well as mentoring personnel on technical competencies. Provides input and guidance on Nuclear Criticality Safety Approvals, Nuclear Safety rules, including Safety Analysis Reports, Safety Assessments, Safety Reviews, and risk assessments/analyses. Interfaces on behalf of the Company with the National Nuclear Safety Administration and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board and other entities on matters related to Nuclear Criticality Safety.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, chemistry, or physics from a program accredited by the U.S. Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET (formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology). Designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent programs as documented by the EAC ABET.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant and progressive experience in nuclear safety and nuclear criticality safety. Demonstrated experience and reputation within the Nuclear Criticality Safety community. Demonstrated professionalism in written and oral communications.
In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.
