Reports to: Senior QA Manager
The Food Safety technician for Packaging Integrity Checks is responsible for ensuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of packaging materials and processes in a food manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all packaging meets food safety standards, is free from contamination, and maintains the quality and safety of the product. The technician will also oversee packaging inspections and quality checks, as well as implementing corrective actions when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections of packaging materials and finished product packaging to ensure they meet company, regulatory, and safety standards.
- Monitor packaging conditions, including seal integrity, material quality and tamper-proof requirements.
- Perform checks for potential defects or damage to packaging materials that could affect product safety or quality
- Ensure that all packaging complies with relevant food safety regulations, including local, national, and international standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP)
- Test package integrity and perform seal evaluation randomly or at prescribed intervals.
- Monitor overall quality of the product and packaging materials & communicate production issues with supervisor
- Lead investigations into package integrity (PI) issues for tetra fillers, ensuring that any packaging-related concerns (e.g., leaks, structural defects, contamination) are thoroughly investigated and resolved. Collaborate with production, Tetra, and quality teams to root out the causes and implement corrective actions
- Provide guidance on best practices for packaging material handling, storage, and usage to avoid contamination
- Identify trends and potential areas for improvement in packaging processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, quality, engineering) to implement corrective actions for any packaging issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance packaging safety and reduce defects.
- Coach and assist all departments in understanding and maintaining Food Safety system requirements.
- Participate in internal and third-party audits.
- Maintain strict GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Compliance with all rules & policies regarding health safety, occupational safety, environmental safety, food safety, legal regulations, company requirements, etc.
- Compliance with the Company's Integrated Management Systems which include, but is not limited to Production, Quality, Food Safety & GMP.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma in food science or related field is required
- 1 years of experience in food manufacturing, safety, and occupational health is required
- Proficient computer skills, (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), and instructional software
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to interact with all levels of management
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Able to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions
- Ability to assess situations and escalate issues as needed
- Good knowledge of the food environment, food safety systems and the related regulatory requirements (USDA, FDA)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
