We are seeking a skilled Industrial Sewing Machine Operator to join our marine canvas shop team. As an Industrial Sewing Machine Operator, you will play a crucial role in crafting high-quality canvas products, such as boat covers, bimini tops, dodgers, and other marine-related textile items. Your expertise in sewing techniques and attention to detail will be essential in producing durable, precise, and aesthetically pleasing products that meet our customers' needs and expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate Industrial Sewing Machines: Efficiently operate various industrial sewing machines, including single-needle, long arm, and serger machines, to sew boat canvas materials according to provided patterns and specifications.
- Fabric Cutting and Preparation: Work with various materials and patterns, ensuring accurate measurements, proper alignment, and appropriate fabric preparation techniques for sewing.
- Product Assembly: Skillfully assemble canvas products, such as boat covers, bimini tops, cushions, and related accessories, adhering to established shop guidelines and quality standards.
- Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections of the finished products to ensure they meet the required quality standards, making adjustments or reworking as needed to maintain consistent quality.
- Material Handling: Organize and manage inventory of materials, threads, and supplies, notifying the supervisor when additional materials are needed.
- Maintain Sewing Equipment: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of sewing machines to ensure optimal performance and longevity, promptly reporting any technical issues to the supervisor.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the production team, designers, and supervisors to understand project requirements, ensure efficient workflow, and resolve any potential issues during the production process.
- Time Management: Follow production schedules and timelines, meeting deadlines for individual and team projects.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe and secure work environment.
- Quality Improvement: Suggest and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, efficiency, and product quality.
Ideal candidate will have:
- Experience: Proven experience using an industrial sewing machine, experience with marine canvas/sails is preferred. Training available for the right candidate
- Sewing Skills: Proficient in operating industrial sewing machines, with a strong understanding of sewing techniques, fabric handling, and pattern alignment.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure precise measurements, proper stitching, and high-quality finished products.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment and take direction from supervisors and designers.
- Time Management: Excellent time management skills to meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of standing for extended periods and lifting heavy materials when necessary.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to work on various boat canvas products and adapt to changing project demands.
