What are the responsibilities and job description for the SERVER position at Yacht Starship Dining Cruises?
GENERAL PURPOSE
Courteously and efficiently delivers and serves food and beverage items in a manner that assures guest satisfaction and maximizes revenues.
ENVIRONMENT
Prolonged standing and constant movement in a noisy and small environment. Work on a vessel with limited personal space and public areas. Up to twelve-hour days with the likelihood of a varying daily schedule. Prolonged strenuous physical activity in indoor and outdoor environment. Work on a boat away from shore for 2-5 hours at a time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arrive for assigned work on time.
- Be in proper uniform – neat, clean and orderly. Have all required tools on hand (i.e., pens, wine opener, name tag, cleaning supplies).
- Properly set tables for all types of service and cruises, including but not limited to tablecloths, flatware, china, table lamps, napkins, menus, salt and pepper shakers, and caddies.
- Maintain clean and organized dining rooms and areas.
- Ensuring menu shells are clean and contain the appropriate menu for the shift.
- Take food and beverage orders from guests. Assist guests in specific choices.
- Suggest additional items, such as wine or cocktails, to enhance guests' dining experience and maximize revenues.
- Serve chosen food and beverage items quickly and efficiently.
- Maintain work areas clean and free of clutter, especially with regard to food service, and to Board of Health requirements.
- Keep service and supply stations stocked and set.
- Responsible for receiving food items and non-food supplies and storing them in the proper areas in accordance with the FIFO (first in-first out) inventory method.
- Assist other crew members as needed to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Complete all assigned pre-shift and post-shift duties quickly and according to specifications and guidelines.
- Complete all assigned cleaning duties according to specifications and guidelines.
- Vacuums rooms, public areas and hallways, operating vacuums weighing up to 25 lbs., and lifting/removing heavy furniture in order to vacuum entire area of carpet and hard to reach places.
- Maintain a positive, supportive work environment via effective, professional communication with co-workers.
- Support and follow all company policies, procedures and programs, including Yacht Hospitality System and Starship Safety.
- Promote good business principles by never discussing company business in public areas or with guests.
- Exhibits and encourages proper hygiene and sanitary habits.
- Provide assistance to other crewmembers and departments to contribute to the best overall operation of the Yacht.
- Is friendly, cheerful and courteous at all times.
- Fill station bill requirements and participate in drills with regard to passenger safety.
- All other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management
NECESSARY JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Basic knowledge of restaurant service and general sanitation and cleaning principles. Need finger, hand and upper body dexterity to push, pull and move levers, equipment and furniture. Able to safely go up and down stairs while carrying service trays or other items. Able to balance and carry a service tray with breakable service items weighing 50lbs. Possess a pleasant, outgoing personality and enjoy interacting with others. Must be able to effectively communicate with guests and co-workers. Able to understand and follow verbal/written instructions and communicate both verbally and in writing.
MATERIAL/EQUIPMENT USED
General restaurant equipment including Point of Sale system. Basic residential cleaning equipment and supplies such as vacuums and Windex.

Will wear a long-sleeved, white, button-down collar, oxford-style shirt, black non-fading pants (no cotton), black, rubber-soled, polishable dress shoes, black socks, black belt, company issued apron and tie, and your assigned name badge.
