What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Analyst position at Yadkin County Government?
Essential Job Functions
Manage geographical data as it relates to GIS information for County and public use. Manages new addresses, readdressing, and updating the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG). Charged with developing, updating, integrating and maintaining the County’s physical NG911 addressing model with a focus on improving emergency response. Updates Tax Office features for mapping changes caused by deed recordation. Assisting with the administration and maintenance of the Geographical Information System; Assists with managing databases and data collection for mapping; providing technical assistance to users and consumers of GIS services. Provides analytical support and custom mapping support to County departments, agencies, staff, and external customers. Performs GPS data collection, analysis and presentation. This position requires interaction with the public, other departments, and local agencies to keep the system up-to-date and integrated with surrounding communities. Ability to be accessible after normal working hours with direct support to the emergency operations command. Other responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (GIS, Geography, Planning, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, etc.) and one year of experience in GIS or a closely related field or an Associate’s Degree in a related field (GIS, Geography, Planning, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, etc.) and two years of experience in GIS or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, generate reports, analyze and interpret maps/blueprints, collect data and compare composite characteristics
- Ability to communicate effectively with people of varying backgrounds, and establish effective working relationships with supervisors, the public, as well as other employees
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, organize and ensure deadlines are met.
- Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise, including ArcGIS Pro
- Skillful in Microsoft Office Suite as well as general office equipment (Computer, Scanner, Copier, and Fax)
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge of cartography, mapping/land surveying principles and techniques
- GISP (Geographic Information System Professional) certification
Working Conditions
Hours of work -
- Generally, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with occasional after-hours work including but not limited to public meetings, weekend work, and emergency situations.

- Valid Driver’s License
- Physical Requirements: sitting for extended periods of time, viewing a computer monitor/using a keyboard and mouse, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting to 35 pounds on a regular basis (occasionally moving larger items that may weigh up to 50 lbs.), able to regularly walk on varied terrain, stand, stoop, bend, as well as lift moderate items of weight (up to 20 pounds).
- Able to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, rain, dirt, etc.
