Essential Job Functions
This position serves as both the medical provider and the nursing supervisor.
As nursing supervisor, the employee is responsible for the supervision of the nursing program and is responsible for serving as an authority of the unit. This includes administrative duties such as planning, organizing and managing daily operations, quality assurance, personnel management, and staff development. This position is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the Medical Clinic nursing staff, and will coordinate with Administration on matters involving daily operations. Nursing supervision duties also include oversight of public health programs including policy and procedure. As such, this position is accountable for assuring that all services are provided in accordance with federal, state and grant requirements and that staff work to their full scope of practice without exceeding that scope. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating people and projects. Will provide leadership for: project development, budgeting, training, setting work standards, scheduling, reviewing work, counseling, disciplining and performing other personnel functions with review and approval of the Assistant Human Services Director. Education and Experience
Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health nursing experience
➢ 1-3 years nursing experience in public or private sector program/management; 2 years of experience as a Nursing supervisor in public/private sector practice management; or an equivalent combination of experience
Working Conditions

Potential environmental exposures: radiation, chemicals, infectious agents, fluid, needle/syringes, waste handling, airborne pathogens. Sight requirements: acuity, near and far; depth perception; color vision; field of vision. Hearing requirements: ordinary conversation (constantly) and other sounds (frequently).
Hours of Work - Generally, Monday - Friday 8am -5pm, or as assigned; Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
Workplace Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license (or ability to travel to required trainings or off-site remote clinics)
- Certifications/Trainings:
I. NC Communicable Disease Training (NCEDSS, SPICE, Intro to Tuberculosis, & Intro to CD Surveillance & Investigation in NC);
II. NC LEAD Training;
- Dispensing of Drugs by Public Health Nurses
- Valid Medical CPR/AED within 90 days of hire
- Family Planning Title X Trainings
* Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of techniques of interviewing, medical and relevant history taking, principles and practices of general medicine and disease states as they relate to the area of work; thorough knowledge of health appraisal tools, laboratory tests and findings, and therapeutic procedures as relate to the area of work; thorough knowledge and ability to plan a regime of care based on assessment and findings; considerable knowledge of available resources and appropriate referral methods. Skills in performing clinical functions. Ability to examine patients and detect abnormalities; ability to record accurately and completely all information necessary to evaluate and plan care and to convey this to the physician if indicated; ability to communicate orally; ability to teach and counsel individuals, families and groups in areas of health maintenance, preventive medicine, and care of the sick; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and to gain the confidence of patients and families and work effectively with them; ability to plan and conduct in-service training programs. Computer skills including Microsoft Office software package. Considerable knowledge of professional nursing theory and techniques. General knowledge of local, state and federal regulations governing health care practices and of standards of accrediting bodies. Basic knowledge of good supervisory practices and skill in supervising others.
Special Notes Concerning This Position
- This position is responsible for oversight of the clinic pharmacy.
- A background check, drug screen and motor vehicle report will be required prior to hire.
- The duties of this position may also include assistance with sheltering operations and working medical counter measure events during natural disasters and public health emergencies.
- ICS Trainings (100, 200, 700 and 800) must be completed within 90 days of hire
- Required mask fit testing annually.
