Description
YakAttack is currently looking for a motivated Engineer to work as an integral part of an award-winning team that designs and manufactures ground breaking products for the Kayak Fishing Industry.
The Mold Designer will layout mold cavities, optimize mold designs for machining and manufacturing, design modifications for existing molds, and work closely with YakAttack Machinists to create molds. The designer will also be expected to work closely with several other departments to help troubleshoot mold issues during the injection molding process, and use constructive feedback to further improve our mold design process.
The candidate must be detail oriented, eager to learn, and have a background in CAD design. The ideal candidate has a desire to learn and grow into a career as a mold designer and project manager for a mold making team. The candidate will be expected to quickly learn the process YakAttack has developed to begin designing quality molds, while continuing to improve the mold making process and procedures to ensure we continue to make the best tooling possible. The applicant will be expected to work within a team and both give and receive critical feedback to help the department continuously improve. Experience with CAD software (ideally Solidworks) is necessary for the position.
Duties and responsibilities
- Design Injection Mold Tooling, using our proprietary process and tooling systems.
- Manage mold design throughput to ensure the department produces molds in a timely manner.
- Read and interpret CAD models, drawings, and tooling instructions.
- Work with Product Design to verify the moldability of new products.
- Work with Production to machine fixtures.
- Verify conformance of machined parts to exact specifications using precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges; in order to troubleshoot process issues
- Maintain inventory levels of molding components such as aluminum, cutting tools, and ejector pins.
- Maintain documentation of molds and mold metrics used in the department.
- Troubleshoot any issues that arise during the manufacturing process.
- Perform tasks in a timely manner without compromising quality.
- Keep work area organized and clean
Working conditions
The job is located at the YakAttack facility in Farmville, Virginia. The Mold Designer is expected to work weekday regular business hours and is willing to work overtime as needed. Occasional travel may be required for training, industry event or to other related facilities (estimated 2 times per year).

Salary Range & Benefits
- Salary range: $45,000-$55,000 per year

Qualifications
- CAD experience
- Machining experiences (preferred but not required)
- Motivated and eager to learn the process YakAttack has developed to build quick-turn tooling
- Desire to do precision work.
- Ability to prioritize

- Excellent communication, verbal and written
- Administrative knowledge including use of technology, office equipment, basic office systems
- Available to work extra hours when needed, usually to fix production issues to ensure delivery to a customer.
Salary : $45,000 - $55,000
