Job Title: Safety Coordinator

Classification: Non-Exempt / Hourly
Reports to: Chief People Officer
Job Qualifications:
- Two or more years of safety experience in a supervisory or similar role, high school diploma required; associate’s degree and/or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of OSH guidelines and practices.
- Experience in reporting and developing policies.
- Experience in implementing OSHA training programs. 10- or 30-hour OSHA certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other Safety Credential preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook).
- Excellent mathematical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to lead and motivate others to follow safety protocols.
- Demonstrated aptitude for working cross-departmentally.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat occasionally to frequently.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) professional, preferred.
Job Summary:
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring workplace safety and compliance with health and safety regulations. Primary duties typically include Developing Safety Policies: Creating and implementing safety programs, procedures, and policies tailored to the organization’s operations. Conducting Inspections: Performing regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure adherence to safety standards. Training and Education: Providing safety training and resources to employees to promote awareness and understanding of workplace safety practices.
Incident Management: Investigating workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions. Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring the organization complies with occupational health and safety regulations, laws, and standards. Reporting and Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and compliance activities and management of online safety portal. Emergency Preparedness: Developing and coordinating emergency response plans, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, workplace violence protocols, and first aid training. Collaboration: Working with management, employees, and external agencies to foster a culture of safety and address safety concerns effectively. Risk Assessment: Identifying potential workplace hazards and implementing preventative measures to minimize risks. Promoting Safety Culture: Encouraging proactive employee participation in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
Job Duties:
- Oversee and enforce the effective execution of the organization's safety programs and policies within the assigned area(s).
- Ensure strict compliance with all company safety regulations, OSHA standards, and safety protocols in day-to-day operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of the workplace, identifying and addressing safety hazards, and ensuring that safety standards are being met.
- Assist in the delivery of safety training programs to ensure employees understand and follow the organization’s safety procedures.
- Enforce safety protocols and address unsafe behaviors or conditions promptly.
- Maintain accurate safety records, including the OSHA 300 logs and workers' compensation claims, in accordance with organizational policies.
- Participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented and lessons learned are shared.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA and company safety protocols, reporting findings to the Sr. Director, HR and/or CPO, taking corrective action as needed.
- Help organize and participate in safety committee meetings, contributing to the continuous improvement of safety practices across the organization.
- Provide safety orientations and training to new employees, ensuring they are familiar with the organization's safety policies and procedures.
- Assist in the management of PPE inventory, ensuring proper usage and availability of safety equipment for employees.
- Support the implementation of emergency procedures and disaster response plans, ensuring staff readiness.
- Act as a point of contact for employees regarding any safety concerns, providing guidance and assistance as necessary.
- Ensure departments maintain sanitary and safe work environments.
- Follow safety requirements.
- Chair company’s Safety Committee.
- Ensure that company safety policies as well as federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations are observed.
- Must have a complete understanding of company’s policies, SOPs, QPs, EPs, HACCP and cGMP that pertain to their department to ensure quality, safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
- Must adhere to all company policies.
- Examine documents, materials, and products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications.
- Follow all SOPs in a given area.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Manager and/or designee.
