Job Title: Safety Coordinator                                     

Department: Human Resources

Classification: Non-Exempt / Hourly                           

Reports to: Chief People Officer

 

Job Qualifications:

  1. Two or more years of safety experience in a supervisory or similar role, high school diploma required; associate’s degree and/or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. In-depth knowledge of OSH guidelines and practices.
  3. Experience in reporting and developing policies.
  4. Experience in implementing OSHA training programs. 10- or 30-hour OSHA certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
  5. Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other Safety Credential preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook).
  7. Excellent mathematical, communication, and organizational skills.
  8. Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
  9. Ability to lead and motivate others to follow safety protocols.
  10. Demonstrated aptitude for working cross-departmentally.
  11. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  12. Ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
  13. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time.
  14. Ability to bend, stoop, squat occasionally to frequently.
  15. Bilingual (English/Spanish) professional, preferred.

Job Summary:

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring workplace safety and compliance with health and safety regulations.  Primary duties typically include Developing Safety Policies: Creating and implementing safety programs, procedures, and policies tailored to the organization’s operations. Conducting Inspections: Performing regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure adherence to safety standards. Training and Education: Providing safety training and resources to employees to promote awareness and understanding of workplace safety practices.

Incident Management: Investigating workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.  Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring the organization complies with occupational health and safety regulations, laws, and standards.  Reporting and Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and compliance activities and management of online safety portal.  Emergency Preparedness: Developing and coordinating emergency response plans, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, workplace violence protocols, and first aid training.  Collaboration: Working with management, employees, and external agencies to foster a culture of safety and address safety concerns effectively.  Risk Assessment: Identifying potential workplace hazards and implementing preventative measures to minimize risks.  Promoting Safety Culture: Encouraging proactive employee participation in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

Job Duties:

  1. Oversee and enforce the effective execution of the organization's safety programs and policies within the assigned area(s).
  2. Ensure strict compliance with all company safety regulations, OSHA standards, and safety protocols in day-to-day operations.
  3. Conduct regular safety inspections of the workplace, identifying and addressing safety hazards, and ensuring that safety standards are being met.
  4. Assist in the delivery of safety training programs to ensure employees understand and follow the organization’s safety procedures.
  5. Enforce safety protocols and address unsafe behaviors or conditions promptly.
  6. Maintain accurate safety records, including the OSHA 300 logs and workers' compensation claims, in accordance with organizational policies.
  7. Participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented and lessons learned are shared.
  8. Monitor compliance with OSHA and company safety protocols, reporting findings to the Sr. Director, HR and/or CPO, taking corrective action as needed.
  9. Help organize and participate in safety committee meetings, contributing to the continuous improvement of safety practices across the organization.
  10. Provide safety orientations and training to new employees, ensuring they are familiar with the organization's safety policies and procedures.
  11. Assist in the management of PPE inventory, ensuring proper usage and availability of safety equipment for employees.
  12. Support the implementation of emergency procedures and disaster response plans, ensuring staff readiness.
  13. Act as a point of contact for employees regarding any safety concerns, providing guidance and assistance as necessary.
  14. Ensure departments maintain sanitary and safe work environments.
  15. Follow safety requirements.
  16. Chair company’s Safety Committee.
  17. Ensure that company safety policies as well as federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations are observed.
  18. Must have a complete understanding of company’s policies, SOPs, QPs, EPs, HACCP and cGMP that pertain to their department to ensure quality, safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
  19. Must adhere to all company policies.
  20. Examine documents, materials, and products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications.
  21. Follow all SOPs in a given area.
  22. Perform all other duties as assigned by Manager and/or designee.
