Maintenance Spray Technician

The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Spray Technician is to hold and maintain a valid Public Operator Herbicide Applicator license and be responsible to perform duties in any or all maintenance programs such as: the Main Canal maintenance, cathodic protection system monitoring, pesticide application, and timer turnout maintenance and operation. This position will also assist the maintenance crew and act as flagger as needed.

The Spray Technician is responsible for proficiency in operating a spray truck, transporting, and applying the spray in a safe and efficient manner following product label direction regarding application rates and PPE; to install spray tank and equipment into spray truck in a safe manner and to clean and store equipment properly and safely.

 The Spray Technician must also have knowledge and experience with the functions of electric solenoid valves and timers, check the proper flow and pressure and correct timer settings; check timer turnouts and make sure they are secure and untampered; make sure all timer turnouts are clear of foliage and obstructions and accessible for service, and troubleshoot and repair problems or issues that arise throughout water season.

The Spray Technician is responsible to use locate equipment to find discontinuities in cathodic protection current; have knowledge and experience testing and diagnosing cathodic protection systems; check and record test values at cathodic test stations (CTS) and rectifiers per company policy and schedule; know locations of the end of the line CTS, rectifier and impressed current beds; have a basic knowledge of cathodic functions and materials needed to maintain and build cathodic systems and maintain and keep logs of all cathodic checks and tests and make the logs available to Supervisor.

This position is within the Laborers’ Local #348 bargaining unit. This position will work in all labor classes as needed.

Applicants must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency (GED) and two years of experience in repair and maintenance of irrigation, plumbing, or electrical equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Applicants must possess a valid Public Operator Herbicide Applicator license at time of hire; possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License; be a U.S. citizen or legally able to work in the U.S; pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, and pre-employment background check with Driver’s check.
