Yakima Valley College seeks an innovative adjunct Chemistry Instructors committed to community college students and their success. This position is part-time, non-tenure track.
Reporting to the Dean - Arts and Sciences, the adjunct Chemistry Instructor will be culturally competent with commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilize appropriate technology in the classroom, and have a record as a successful teacher demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Arts and Sciences Division. We value opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, find ways to utilize cooperative learning, and are utilizing various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction. All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes.
- Teach the 3-quarter General Chemistry sequence for science majors.
- Teach Introductory Chemistry.
- Teach 1-quarter general chemistry for nursing, agriculture, dental hygiene, et al. students.
- Effectively advise students considering a major in physical science or a medical field.
- Maintain current knowledge of academic opportunities, transfer pathways and agreements in the field of science in order to accurately advise students.
- Help students effectively use computers to study Chemistry and collect, analyze, and report laboratory data.
- Use effective classroom methodologies to teach to a variety of students.
- Participate in outcomes assessment of student learning and program effectiveness.
- Effectively interact with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and ability.
- Place primary emphasis on student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses.
- Use strong interpersonal communication skills for effectively working and interacting with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, and ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural setting.
- Demonstrate the ability to use written and oral communication in the classroom and with other professionals.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to the mission and values of community college education.
- Earned Master's degree in Chemistry or related field.
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience.
- Community college teaching experience.
