Position Summary:
The Yakutat Tlingit Tribe (YTT), Surveyor employee is responsible for conducting multiple, one-hour surveys with the adult members of the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe volunteers, to gather essential data on the consumption of subsistence seafoods. This role involves direct interaction with Tribal members, collecting 24-hour, weekly recall of subsistence consumption information, and ensuring data integrity for analysis and reporting. This position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of our community as well as providing avenues for improvement in our environment.
Essential Functions:
· Survey Administration: Conduct face-to-face, surveys with Tribal members in a professional and respectful manner.
· Data Collection: Accurately record responses using provided survey tools, whether digital devices or paper forms.
· Tribal Engagement: Build rapport with YTT Tribal Members and encourage participation and ensure a high response rate. Information
· Dissemination: Explain the purpose of the survey and how the collected data will be used to benefit the tribe and community.
· Quality Assurance: Ensure completeness and accuracy of the collected data
· Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of respondents' information and handle data sensitively.
· Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Environmental director, on survey progress and any issues encountered.
· Participate in an online Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (citi program) with Alaska Native Tribel Health Consortium (ANTHC). Approximately 25 hours, paid training (IRB)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge and understanding of Tlingít cultural norms.
· Knowledge with digital devices and data entry software.
· Skill in writing and editing and should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and basic computer skills.
· Skilled in attention to detail and accuracy.
· Ability to exhibit timeliness; must be able and willing to show up on time at an agreed-upon location.
· Ability to work as part of a group or team; able to take directions from others and communicate clearly with co-workers and contractors.
· Ability to work the flexible hours This may include working earlier or later than typical office hours and may include weekends.
· Ability to work in an office setting for extended periods of time.
· Ability to conduct themselves professionally in the workspace, have good organizational skills, good record-keeping skills.
· Ability to trouble-shoot and have good common-sense, be self-driven, and can work independently without supervision, if needed.
· Ability to communicate and excellent interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
· Multilingual abilities are an asset.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, requiring use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated.
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. The employee must be able to read, write, speak and hear.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibility or authority in the training period.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Some college coursework in social sciences, public health or related fields, preferred
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to pass a National Criminal and State background check.
- Valid Alaska Driver’s License.
- Must complete comprehensive online training within the first 90 days of employment.
- this is not a remote position.
