GENERAL SUMMARY:
Summary: The Shipping/Receiving and Material Handler performs receiving, domestic and international shipping, and inventory transactions for all incoming and outgoing products. This includes proper storage and delivery of products to various locations throughout the plant; the proper management of all required documentation and labeling, and shipments of finished products to Yale Cordage customers, both domestic and international.
As a shipping-receiving material hander you will be responsible for performing all duties in a timely manner throughout the day, following procedures, and maintaining accurate transactions. This role interfaces with many internal and external customers, and freight & logistics companies, partners of Yale Cordage, and your ability to maintain good working relationships is expected.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Receive all delivered products in the ERP system (Aptean/Intuitive) and physically move inventory to warehouse locations and bring other supplies and products directly to employees
- When receiving and putting away, follow proper FIFO procedure for all lot/serial numbered inventory items. This may mean moving the older lots from one space to another, before the receipt can be physically put away to a correct location
- Participate in maintaining a well-organized and clean warehouse for both raw materials and finished goods
- Prepare necessary paperwork involved in all shipments, domestic and international, working with Yale Cordage 3PL partners
- Coordinate and schedule shipments with truck lines for small packages, LTL and FTLs, Air, and Ocean
- Maintain working knowledge of each carrier that Yale Cordage has direct involvement with, which includes transit times, discount structures etc.
- Perform system inventory transactions when receiving and shipping products
- Record and maintain daily logs
- Track and expedite shipments, and work with Customer Service as needed regarding specific customer shipments
- Quality control for finished goods before final packaging (appearance visual inspection of the finished product): looking for broken/damaged boxes, missing product labels etc.
- Stage, and prepare outgoing orders for shipment
- Help in other departments if time allows to meet business demand
- Perform regular cycle counts of raw materials, WIP items and Finished goods as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Forklift License
- Good listening, communication, and customer service skills
- Computer literate: Microsoft Office 365 (especially Excel and Word)
- Former MRP/ERP knowledge preferred, but not required.
- Ability to meet Quality Assurance expectations and packaging requirements
- Organized
- Ability to follow detailed operating directions
- Basic math skills
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds repeatedly
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Majority of tasks are done standing. Regular and sustained periods of strenuous physical exertion, requiring ability to lift, carry and position heavy objects using proper body mechanics and techniques.
