Description

The Yale University Hellenic Studies Program seeks applications for one Postdoctoral Associate for the 2025-2026 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, chosen for the promise of their research. Housed in the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, the interdisciplinary Hellenic Studies Program supports and coordinates the teaching and study of topics related to modern Greece at Yale.

Required

The postdoctoral associate will be required to be in residence for the 2025-2026 academic year, continue research or writing on topics related to Hellenic Studies and contribute to the development of planning and events for the Hellenic Studies Program. Ideal candidates should work on topics related to Modern Greece and Modern Greek studies, including, but not restricted to:

  • Greek educational policy: Potential research projects include college admissions, educational equity, edtech, and comparisons to the US educational system. They involve mathematical modeling, empirical analysis of administrative and experimental data, and experiment design, with opportunities for close collaboration with Greek public education practitioners.
  • Approaches to pediatric health and psychological care in Greece: Potential research projects could include treatment of pediatric health (chronic pain, functional neurological disorder) and mental health (anxiety, depression) in Greece compared to the US system. This may involve literature reviews, bridging connections with healthcare centers, observing clinical and/or research visits, and analyzing existing US-based data.
  • Infrastructure investment in Greece: Evaluation of economic and societal impacts of Greek infrastructure including, but not limited to, transportation infrastructure, health infrastructure, communication infrastructure, educational infrastructure, energy infrastructure.
  • GDPR compliance in the Greek public sector
  • Security and privacy challenges in Greek healthcare

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and complies with the Yale Office of Postdoctoral Affairs compensation policy and includes a benefits package.

Qualifications

Emerging scholars are encouraged to apply, and established scholars may also apply.

Graduate students who are working on their doctoral degrees may apply, but fellowship recipients must have completed their PhD dissertations and present proof that they have received their doctoral degree. Postdoctoral Associates are expected to be in residence in New Haven, Connecticut, for the full academic year so that they can take an active part in the intellectual exchange with members of the Yale community.

Application Instructions

While applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, those received by February 21 will receive priority review. Applications require a two-page proposal and a two-page CV. If more is submitted, the selection committee will only read the first two pages of each of these two documents. Applicants short-listed for the second stage will be asked to send no more than 25 pages of a writing sample and two letters from their referees.
