The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key member of the Executive Management Team who leads the overall clinical vision for the organization and provides clinical direction to the organization. The position provides medical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality, cost-effective healthcare services. Responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with all clinical medical policies, directives, rules, regulations and clinical performance standards of the state, the federal government, accrediting bodies and YNHHS.

The Chief Medical Officer’s duties shall include, but not be limited to:
- Lead and implement the clinical direction for the organization.
- Develop standards and oversight for provider support resources to ensure effective delivery of cost-effective care to all patient customers
- Develop processes, policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure quality of care standards are met throughout the system that are aligned with the quality program of YNHHS
- Develop a clinical operations model that ensures meeting/exceeding clinical, customer journey and financial goals
- Develop and execute a staffing model that ensures the Company meets/exceeds standards
- Build and leverage cross functional collaborative relationships to achieve shared company goals
- Promote collaboration to both internal and external healthcare team members
- Facilitate the development of clinical standards, measurements, and quality assurance processes to ensure we are providing the “best” medical quality consistently throughout the organization
- Participates in review and evaluation of new products to ensure they align with company mission and values
- Participates in executive management business and clinical strategy development and implementation.
- Review and utilize clinical data to drive quality improvement activities and the need for ongoing provider education
- Reviews and responds to patient care complaints and grievances in accordance with YNHH Urgent Care procedures, and recommends or takes corrective action where appropriate, in accordance with the YNHH Urgent Care practice policies
- Develops/implements provider staffing, recruitment/retention and scheduling plan to meet the needs of the business
- Oversees the training and orientation of all urgent care center providers
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with providers
- Addresses provider performance concerns
- Acts as a resource for and responds to provider questions and problems
- Acts as a physician reviewer for cases referred by patients, employees or community physicians
- Dedicates 25% of their time in the clinical settings across the designated region caring for patients, observing medical activities and coaching medical teams

- Experience with clinical risk management and safety protocols
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and other healthcare technologies. (EPIC preferred)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with medical staff, administrators, and other stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound clinical and administrative decisions in an environment of continued improvement.
- Sound medical reasoning skills and strong medical ethics
- Ability to initiate and coordinate the smooth integration of new providers during acquisitions
- Experience in budget management and resource allocation
Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages all physicians and APPs of the clinical department and is responsible for leadership, performance management, and hiring of the employees within its department.
Required Education and Experience
- Unrestricted Medical License in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts
- Board Certification in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine/Pediatrics
- A minimum of 5 years of professional post-residency experience in direct patient care
- Experience in Urgent Care or Emergency Medicine development
- Experience and demonstrated successful leadership of case management, disease management and/or population health programs.
- Demonstrated ability to assess business needs, design and implement programs and evaluate results.
