As an Evening Shift Respiratory Therapist at Yale New Haven Health, you will provide critical respiratory care and support to patients with both chronic and acute conditions. Your responsibilities include administering treatment modalities, monitoring patient responses, and educating patients and families on effective care management. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes while adhering to safety and clinical guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Administer various treatment modalities for patients requiring respiratory care
- Monitor the effectiveness of these modalities and identify when another modality should be substituted
- Provide resuscitative measures as necessary, including airway management and use of resuscitative equipment
- Evaluate patients for response to therapy and refer those with unusual or adverse responses to appropriate team members
- Participate in patient and family education on goals of therapy, proper use of medications, breathing exercises, and oxygen and therapy equipment
- Gather data for use in clinical treatment and update every shift as needed
- Operate all equipment safely and adhere to safety procedures in handling hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of respiratory therapy with a credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
- Cross-training in other departments may require additional certification and training
- Ability to work in emergency situations and utilize appropriate resuscitative techniques
- Knowledge of operation of all equipment and troubleshooting techniques
- Excellent customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development skills
Certifications and Training:
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of completed cross-training in cardiology
- Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) certification within 6 months of completed cross-training in pulmonary function lab
