Position Focus :
This position will manage the development and implementation of an effective strategy to build a vibrant and inclusive culture for all members of the Yale Engineering community. In concert with senior leadership, they will manage the school’s inclusion efforts, articulated in our strategic vision, to advance the Dean’s initiatives to strengthen our community across constituencies – faculty, staff, postdocs, students. As a critical part of this work, the Associate Director will manage two NSF grants based at the School of Engineering and Applied Science; the Alliance for Relevant and Inclusive Sponsorship of Engineers (ARISE) and Innovation Corps (I-Corps). These grants have a focus on broadening participation in engineering and innovation. The Associate Director will also serve as the school’s primary Title IX Coordinator and as a Discrimination and Harassment Resource Coordinator (DHRC) and will play a critical role in the school’s compliance efforts and commitment to providing a learning and working environment free from any form of discrimination and harassment.
The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering and a passion for making the field more inclusive. They must be organized and skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously. They must have strong communication skills and the ability to cultivate internal and external partnerships. This position will work with various offices of academic administration as well as students, faculty, and departmental and school leadership. The position will also regularly interact and partner with colleagues from other universities.
Responsibilities will include in concert with school leaders, lead coordination, tracking and reporting of the school DEIB unit plan including the preparation of reporting for university-wide belonging initiative. Serve as School’s primary Title IX Coordinator and as a Discrimination and Harassment Resource Coordinator. Serve as Engineering’s liaison in university-wide DEIB convenings. Help facilitate unit-based discussions on DEI / Belonging and assist unit heads with necessary follow-up. Responsible for developing processes, strategies, initiatives and programs to coordinate the school's efforts to build an inclusive community. Lead implementation for NSF Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) activities (ARISE at Yale).
This will include multi-level mentorship programming for graduate students, postdocs, and faculty. Lead implementation for Yale’s NSF ICorps activities. This will include cultivating new innovation teams across Yale, planning programming to support these teams, and engaging with community partners. Maintain communication with partner universities, including ARISE counterparts from Brown, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins and ICorps counterparts from Princeton and throughout the ICorps Northeast Hub. Manage budget for grant reporting. Other related duties might include preparing new grant applications.

Essential Duties
1. Oversees the execution and implementation of detailed project plans in concert with stakeholders. 2. Manages several routine projects simultaneously and ensures that the design, testing, training, documentation and prioritization objectives are met. 3. Assists in refining and re-sequencing during the implementation and execution phases of assigned projects, as needed. 4. Works closely with business analysts, technical professionals, end users and project stake holders during the requirements, solutions design and implementation phases to develop detailed project plans for implementation. 5. Works on risk assessment, communication planning, development of performance metrics, and project entry criteria. 6. Creates detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project completion. 7. Manages client expectations and provides issue / risk identification and escalation pathways. 8. May supervise the implementation team of cross-functional project and technical resources. 9. Designs, develops, and executes communication systems to ensure effective exchange of information between project stakeholders, senior management, and staff. 10. Resolves complex project issues that involve representatives from multiple organizations. 11. Complies with standard policies and procedures. 12. May supervise and train junior project managers. 13. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.
Required Skill / Ability 1 :
Demonstrated experience in engineering and / or innovation, preferably with an advanced degree.
Required Skill / Ability 2 :
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Superior interpersonal skills and ability to interact with faculty, staff, students, patients and administrators at all levels in a highly professional demeanor while maintaining excellent customer service.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and environments, while maintaining a high level of efficiency and effectiveness. Ability to deal with complex issues and sensitive situations that require confidentiality and discretion. Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment and proven organizational skills to manage multiple projects.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :
PhD in engineering or a relevant discipline plus three years demonstrated progressive higher education experience.
