Position Focus :

The Yale School of Management (SOM) Office of Inclusion and Diversity (OID) supports a community of approximately 1,300 students, staff, and faculty. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Inclusion and Diversity, the Director leads initiatives to advance diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and foster a sense of belonging for the SOM community. Specifically, the Director is responsible for leading the office’s programming on DEI and providing spaces that empower community members to foster inclusion, engage meaningfully with one another, and celebrate diversity.

The Director will serve as a leader in the Inclusion and Diversity space, providing thought partnership and strategic insight to the Assistant Dean regarding the school’s DEI goals. This position will manage SOM’s diversity, equity, and inclusion related programming and resources to enhance awareness, reflection, and action around DEI topics. The Director will build relationships with DEI professionals across the university to identify ways to further enhance learning opportunities for SOM.

1. Drive operational excellence for team. Organize workstreams with the creation of transparent systems and streamlined processes to track all initiatives. Provide regular operational updates to the team.

2. Develop annual co-curricular DEI learning objectives in partnership with the Assistant Dean and create initiatives to best accomplish these goals. Own strategic portfolio of work to achieve DEI learning objectives, including co-curricular programming, resources, and partnerships. Manage DEI programming budget for the office.

3. Collaborate with the Assistant Dean to develop and implement the DEI strategic plan, aligning DEI initiatives with organizational goals and objectives.

4. Analyze data related to DEI metrics, employee engagement, and workforce demographics to assess progress and inform strategic decisions. Serve as a resident DEI learning expert for the community. Directly facilitate programming, as well as build an external network of DEI subject matter experts to supplement offerings with vendor-led virtual and in-person training.

5. Create innovative strategies to promote safe spaces for students, staff, and faculty to find and build community, including restorative justice circles, bespoke programming, and affinity-based networking opportunities.

6. Partner with colleagues in other departments who are driving aspects of DEI work in their roles to ensure DEI principles are integrated into all aspects of the organization, including recruitment, retention, performance management, and employee development.

7. Strategic Policy Review : Review and recommend policies and practices that promote equity and inclusion within SOM for students, faculty and staff.

8. Guide the student-run Affinity Clubs through overseeing a community of practice for affinity leadership. Advise, share best practices, and support club initiatives with an emphasis on cross-club collaboration and intersectionality.

9. May be assigned to serve on key committees and to other projects or initiatives.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Required Skill / Ability 1 :

Strong knowledge of DEI principles and practices and demonstrated interest in learning across difference and fostering an inclusive environment. Superior facilitation skills in person and virtually. Familiarity with DEI best practices and content to recommend given our community’s needs

Required Skill / Ability 2 :

Ability to initiate programmatic and individual activities while functioning in a matrixed team setting. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Skill / Ability 3 :

Ongoing collaboration and ability to partner effectively across multiple stakeholder groups.

Required Skill / Ability 4 :

Strong analytical and technical skills, including ability to work with advanced MS Office, complex databases, and spreadsheets.

Required Skill / Ability 5 :

Creative mindset and innovative approach to continuously improve programmatic offerings to best reach desired audiences. Experience in program development and project management.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :

Advanced degree. Demonstrated experience in higher education or a field consistent with career paths of management students. Demonstrated experience presenting to varied size groups and with facilitating tough conversations. Proven experience and interest with program planning in higher education.
