Position Focus :
The Research Associate will be responsible for managing projects led by Dr. Harper and Dr. Bellamy at the Program for Recovery and Community Health (PRCH), including NIH funded and other research studies as well as recovery educational activities. These projects may include the following : the non-congregate housing and Mental Health study, an NIH RO1 funded mixed methods research project with people experiencing homelessness, in partnership with the Department of Emergency Medicine; Recovery Finance, an NIH RO1 funded mixed methods research project with people with histories of mental illness, substance use and incarceration histories. Other projects may include : the Connecticut Baby Bonds evaluation, a private foundation funded qualitative project evaluating the Connecticut Baby Bonds program; the New Haven Electrification project, an EPA funded mixed methods evaluation project with the City of New Haven; and various projects under the Citizens Community Collaborative, a DMHAS funded research, training and education initiative exploring Citizenship oriented mental health care across the state. The project manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the project, taking a lead to assign staff to conduct project activities including tracking deliverables, project reporting, handling all IRB related matters, developing and refining SOPs, petty cash management, leading and organizing research team meetings and leading and organizing the Community Advisory Board meetings, external and internal communications, participant recruitment and tracking, data collection and management.
Essential Duties
1. Supervises research within the scope of established study protocol. Adheres to all human subjects regulations as defined by Yale University and the federal government that pertain to research studies. 2. Responsible for reviewing, planning, and implementing study protocols and assessing the impact of program changes on research quality. Identifies and makes initial contact with potential funding sources to secure funds. 3. Oversees the planning of large multi-site or global studies. Establish goals and objectives, training requirements, productivity goals and financial parameters. Develops forms and questionnaires and manages the application of research techniques. 4. Works closely with research faculty and collaborators to identify quality and operational strategies and aspects of study that need to overcome. 5. Fosters and maintains cooperative relationships with principal investigators, collaborators, study coordinators, government officials, international partnerships, and study sponsors to ensure for the safe and timely progression of studies and adherence to all study / agency / government regulations. 6. Develops original HIC / IRB submissions for multi site research. Collaborate with various PI on major revisions and ensure changes are incorporated at each participating site. 7. Uses advanced statistical knowledge to provide support in managing and analyzing data. 8. Develops operational procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of statistical data. Develops and implements relevant statistical programs to incorporate data from multiple projects. Designs comprehensive and rational databases with advance knowledge of the scientific applications impacting on the data analyses and reporting. 9. Develops protocols for collection of data. Designs data gathering instruments and related procedures. Tests, refines and finalizes instruments for use in research study. 10. Presents talks, seminars or other oral presentations on the methodology and analyses used in scientific studies. 11. Composes major abstracts / publications / manuscript. 12. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in a related discipline and four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill / Ability 1 :
Bilingual in English and Spanish. Demonstrated ability to manage research projects and work with community teams. Supervision of staff; engage in independent networking and recruitment activities with emergency shelters, jails and prisons, behavioral health programs and non-social service agencies in New Haven and CT.
Required Skill / Ability 2 :
Excellent communication and advanced expertise in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Zoom, and other virtual platforms. Work closely with the PI and other investigators on research components, provide monthly reports with process and outcome data, attend and actively lead weekly research team meetings, and lead in writing grants and co-authoring research papers for publication.
Required Skill / Ability 3 :
Experience with qualitative and quantitative data management software and experience conducting data analysis including SPSS, Dedoose or NVivo, REDCap, Qualtrics and ACCESS. Understanding of secure storage for quantitative data, strong data organization skills, and ability to manage joins and de-identification keys. Statistical understanding of quantitative methods.
Required Skill / Ability 4 :
Experience in working with communities with histories of incarceration, mental illness, substance use and / or homelessness and people who are bilingual Spanish and bicultural. Experience using community based participatory research methods and working with people from the community.
Required Skill / Ability 5 :
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as with a team.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :
Quantitative and qualitative data entry and data analysis skills, including use of relevant software such as NVivo and Dedoose, and R or Stata. Experience in working on multiple research projects.
