What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Scientist position at Yale School of Medicine?
Open Position: Associate Research Scientist
Farhadian Research Group, Infectious Diseases, Yale University
The Farhadian Research Group, in the Section of Infectious Diseases at the Yale School of Medicine, seeks an energetic and skilled Associate Research Scientist to join a collaborative, interdisciplinary team studying neuroimmune dysfunction and brain health disorders in people living with HIV and other infectious diseases. Our lab blends immunology, neuroscience, and molecular biology to understand the immune landscape of the human central nervous system.
The Associate Research Scientist will take a leading role in the execution of experimental studies using cutting-edge molecular tools, including single-cell genomic assays, to investigate the immune environment of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and brain tissue. This includes contributing to studies that examine how HIV infection, medications for opioid use disorder, and other exposures shape the transcriptional and epigenetic states of immune cells in central nervous system (CNS), often even despite treatment. The Associate Research Scientist will also contribute to ongoing projects in CSF and blood immunophenotyping in older adults with HIV, and in neurosyphilis pathogenesis.
What This Role Offers:
- Leadership in impactful projects
- Hands-on work with human biospecimens—CSF, blood, and postmortem brain
- A central role in experimental design and execution of molecular and cellular assays
- Opportunities to contribute to high-impact publications, presentations, and grants
- Daily collaboration with computational biologists, neurologists, and other scientists
· This position is supported by stable, long-term funding and is not contingent on specific NIH grants.
· Lab environment committed to collaboration, inclusivity, and support, where every team member is mentored in pursuit of their individual professional and scientific goals, whether in academia, industry, or beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the execution of advanced molecular and cellular experiments, including flow cytometry, immune assays, sequencing library preparation.
- Manage biospecimen workflows, including the processing, storage, and cataloging of CSF, blood, and postmortem brain samples.
- Ensure compliance with IRB protocols, biosafety standards, and accurate data tracking, and best practices in sample handling and data management.
- Supervise and mentor junior lab staff and trainees.
- Contribute to scientific manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
- Help shape the direction of lab projects and infrastructure as a senior team member
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- PhD in immunology, neuroscience, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Experience with human tissue research and molecular or cellular assays.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Interest in a long-term position to help our lab grow
