Yampa Valley Electric Association seeks a driven and ambitious Engineer at levels I, II, or III to join our team. The successful candidate will start as Engineer I, II, or III, depending on experience as demonstrated during interviews.
The Role
The Engineer I role plays a key part in the planning, designing, and implementing electrical distribution projects. This entry-level position emphasizes project coordination, collaboration across departments, permit management, and engagement with cooperative members. It offers opportunities for professional growth, hands-on experience, and skill development while working alongside senior designers to build technical expertise and gain industry knowledge through projects of minimal complexity.
The Engineer II position builds on this foundation, utilizing advanced engineering skills and experience to contribute to the successful execution of moderately complex electrical distribution projects.
The Engineer III will be responsible for understanding YVEA's substation and distribution systems, including design, specifications, and operating principles. They will lead efforts to complete engineering studies, reports, and development of the Cooperative's Construction Work Plan (CWP).
Key Experience:
Engineer I
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET credited university or college, or equivalent technical degree is required.
- Experience with MathCAD, WindMil, or other engineering analysis software preferred.
- Applicants that have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) are preferred. Successful candidate will be required to obtain FE certification within 2 years of hire.
Engineer II
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree is required.
- Two years or more of progressive engineering experience. A focus on distribution utility power systems is highly preferred.
- Must have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and be working towards Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. Will be required to obtain PE licensure within 4 years of hire.
- Some familiarity with Milsoft, NISC, Survalent, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), or MathCAD software suites is preferred.
Engineer III
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree is required.
- Five years or more of progressive engineering experience. A focus on distribution utility power systems and / or substations is preferred.
- Professional Engineer licensure is preferred. Must have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) and be working towards Professional Engineer (PE) certification. Will be required to obtain PE licensure within 1 year of hire.
- Familiarity of Milsoft, NISC, Survalent, or Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) software suites is preferred.
