Seasonal Security Guard
(Four Positions Available)
Hiring Range: $23.05 - $31.19/hr
SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, between the hours of 9am and 6pm, performs security guard duties for the Yampa Valley Regional Airport (YVRA) to provide for the protection of the property, the safety of persons, the preservation of the peace and the enforcement of applicable laws, rules, regulations when necessary; monitors boarding passengers for potential security or safety issues; assists with maintaining airport and terminal access control; patrols airport property and performs perimeter checks of secure areas; completes forms and prepares routine correspondence, reports and other documents; and performs other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs security guard services to provide for the protection of YVRA property, the safety of persons, the preservation of the peace and the enforcement of applicable laws, rules, regulations and when necessary;
- Assists with maintaining airport and terminal access control and maintaining a sterile exit area in compliance with
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations and YVRA Policy.
- Monitors airport visitors and passengers for potential security or safety issues; verifies visitor and vendor identifications; serves as the first line of defense in preventing a breach into the sterile area from the baggage claim area.
- Performs perimeter checks of the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) to check that doors are secured and
SIDA rule compliance is followed.
- Assists with investigating unattended baggage found at the airport.
- Communicates any potential security or safety threats via radio or phone; files written logs and reports any breach in security to a supervisor.
- Completes forms and prepares routine correspondence, reports, and other documents.
- Updates and maintains information in databases, spreadsheets, and activity logs, or other resources; locates and retrieves requested information from manual or computerized systems.
- Greets passengers as they deplane and provides basic airport information as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Prior experience in security, airport operations, law enforcement or emergency management is desirable.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
- Valid Colorado Driver License may be required to operate a County vehicle.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must complete Incident Command System (ICS) Training within three months of appointment.

Must be able to successfully complete a Federal Security Background Check for TSA SIDA badging requirements.
