POSITION SUMMARY
As a Prep Cook for Yarzin Sella, you will wash, chop, and mix hefty amounts of vegetables, meat, and other ingredients. You will be expected to keep ingredients fresh and consistently comply with the restaurant’s recipe standards. You will coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure that the kitchen is well stocked. You will assist the operation in receiving and putting away food deliveries, making sure to follow proper food safety procedure. Success in this role will be demonstrated by efficient food preparation and helping the culinary team create a systematic cooking process while maintaining appetizing dishes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine kitchen tasks.
- Follow the prep list created to plan duties.
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep.
- Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes.
- Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and parboiling food.
- Prepare simple dishes, such as salads, soups, sandwiches, and entrees.
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash.
- Ensure that all food and other items are stored properly.
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
- Receive and put away food deliveries as assigned by the management team.
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum 1 year of kitchen preparation and food service preferred
· Basic cooking skills
· Deep knowledge of various meal ingredients and cooking equipment
· Working knowledge of food and sanitation guidelines and regulations
· Able to maintain a flexible work schedule
· Able to stand for extended periods
· Able to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable
