Technical Support (25% travel)
- Support large OEM customers with applications development.
- Support custom product: conceptual design, development, testing for large OEM customers.
- Become well versed with all Servo, Motion Control, and Machine Control products and lab equipment.
- Provide technical expertise to assist customers in the use of their application and industry processes of Yaskawa products and services to exceed customer needs.
- Assist field service, technical support, and repair groups with the diagnosis and repair of electrical equipment at the customers’ site.
- Solve application installation problems over the telephone or by visiting the customer site.
- Research, document, and recommend solutions for product enhancements on quality control issues.
- Assist engineering and development with testing of new products, options, and software.
- Primary liaison between QC and customers on quality related issues.
Technical Documentation
- Generate and edit technical sheets and technical information pertaining to all levels of Servo products with minimal assistance to support customer application requirements.
- Create and edit application papers to aid in the promotion of products, functional features, solutions, and services through a technical platform relating to Servo products.
- Create and Collaborate on Servo related technical specifications for enhancing future Yaskawa Motion Division products with minimal assistance.
- Update, organize, maintain, and post (on web) technical documents and engineering files.
- Become familiar with Motion Industry standards (UL, cUL, CSA, NEMA, CE, IEEE, JIS, IEC61131, Devicenet, Profibus, Sercos, Modbus, PackML, etc.).
Technical Training
- Support the Training group with technical information or materials required for customer and associate training (in-house classes, on-site classes, e-learning modules).
- Assist in creating training materials (power point, overheads, handouts, and demonstration equipment) for web classes and Sales associates.
- Conduct technical training sessions in-house and support the Training group or Sales associate at customer’s facility: Channel Partners, OEM’s, End Users, Representatives, Key Accounts, and Systems Integrators.
Sales Support
- Assist sales team in developing quotations and BOM
- Recommend application solutions for Servos and Controllers to internal and external customers
- Assist sales in customer visits to key accounts by preparing/providing: Machine evaluation, Technical presentations, Product and application knowledge.
Research and Reporting Responsibilities
- Provide timely field and regular activity reports to the manager.
- Special application related research projects as assigned by the manager.
- Communicate project successes to Sales and Marketing Associates.
- Generates product and feature specifications used to enhance Servo and Controller, hardware and software products.
QUALIFICATIONS: List the education, experience, skills and personal attributes required to perform this job.
- Three to five year BS Degree with focus studies in electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering, or equivalent related work experience.
- 5 year experience in the motion control, mechatronics field.
- Strong background in Mechatronics, Robotics, motion path-planning.
- Understands and is knowledgeable in discrete automation solutions specifically in the Servo Motion Control
- Software Expertise: Scripting languages such as Python/Lua, PLC Programming, Structure text (such as C, Basic, VB)
- Understands and is knowledgeable in discrete automation solutions specifically in the Servo Motion Control
- Experience with CAD, e.g. Solidworks.
- Field service experience is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, including technical writing and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong organization skills and strong time management with a team approach.
- Ability to mentor and answer technical questions from “C” level engineers.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft OS, Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), MS Project, CAD programming environments, etc.
- Experience with Industrial Networks: Devicenet, Profibus, RS232/485 serial communications, and Ethernet (simulation tool experience is desirable).
- Strong working knowledge of electrical field test equipment.
- Experience Tuning Servo Loop Gains (Position and Speed).
