The position is located in Prescott, Arizona, a picturesque area within Central Arizona, situated just north of Phoenix.  Yavapai County is one of the four original counties formed in 1864, and is named after the Yavapai Tribe, whose name means the “people of the sun”.  The County has a population of approximately 246,191 residents, with the majority residing in eight incorporated towns and cities including Prescott (the county seat), Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Jerome, Clarkdale, Sedona, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, and the most recent addition, Dewey-Humboldt.  Yavapai County is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, featuring breathtaking landscapes that encompass granite mountains, lakes, and rolling meadows.  The region enjoys four distinct seasons and a mild climate, making it ideal for year-round recreational activities.    

This pivotal leadership role is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of non-judicial functions of the Superior Court.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in court operations, management, and policy implementation, with exceptional organizational and communication skills.  This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment while making a meaningful impact on the judicial system and the community it serves.  

  • Plans, organizes, and directs operations to support Superior Court Divisions, programs, and operations.
  • Oversees internal services, such as case flow management, including Early Disposition Court; fiscal administration; technology, technical assistance and electronic records management; information management; facilities, including space management and maintenance; intergovernmental liaison; community and media relations and public information; research and advisory services; interpreter services for Superior Court, Juvenile Court, Justices of the Peace (JPs), Public Defender, Adult Probation Dept.; contract mental health experts; probate accounting; training and assisting all Judges and court personnel in Yavapai County in COJET compliance.
  • Chief of Court Security and directs all court security officers and programs for all court locations including the Justice Courts.  
  • Manages public services provided by Family Law Navigator Program, Court Liaison Program, Alternative Dispute Resolution Program, Law Library and Self-Help Center.
  • Assists Presiding Judge in strategic planning of programs, services, and facilities and compliance with reporting requirements to the Arizona Supreme Court, county departments, and other agencies.
  • Assists Presiding Judge with administrative responsibilities related to JP and Municipal Courts, as needed and on routine basis, including coordinating weekend and holiday judge and clerk schedule, providing training and technical support, assisting with compliance of Minimum Accounting Standards, assisting with personnel recruitments, interpreter services, grant writing and management, problem-solving and other related duties.
  • Compiles and analyzes information; reviews and evaluates effectiveness and efficiency of programs and services; develops administrative policies, procedures, and rules for approval of Presiding Judge.
  • Coordinates court activities with local and state court/non court departments and agencies.
  • Responds to inquiries verbally and in writing and provide appropriate direction and assistance.
  • Participates in local and state committees, makes presentations, and liaisons for Presiding Judge as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Judicial Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, or closely related field.

 

Experience:
A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in court management or administration, to include five (5) years in a supervisory capacity.

An equivalent combination of directly related work experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-per-year basis. 


Additional Requirements:

Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

Must complete annual training as required by the Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET).

Must successfully complete or be enrolled in the Institute for Court Management's (ICM) Court Management Program or Court Executive Development Program or similar Court leadership training within twelve (12) months of hire.

Salary : $125,332 - $159,799
