Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our team. As a Veterinary Assistant, you play a vital role in providing quality care to our patients. This position requires knowledge of emergency veterinary practices and procedures through client communication and excellent patient nursing and handling skills. Our emergency location is open 24/7, we are hiring full-time overnights which includes nights/weekends/holidays.

Duties:
- Assist veterinarians in providing care to patients
- Handle and restrain patients during examinations and procedures
- Prepare treatment areas for procedures
- Clean and sanitize equipment and instruments
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as bloodwork, cytology, and urinalysis
- Assist with radiographs and ultrasound imaging procedures
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures
- Maintain accurate records of patient care and treatment

Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in an emergency veterinary setting is required
- Knowledge of animal behavior
- Familiarity with canine and feline handling techniques
- Proficiency in in-patient nursing care, laboratory procedures and aseptic technique
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

  • The job requires the following lifting requirements and/or exerted force be performed on the job, able to lift 30 pounds (team lift heavier patients)
  • Stand, walk, bend 10 hours
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust to focus.
  • As a working hospital, there will be exposure to a variety of chemicals and cleaners. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. Pet dander and exposure to a wide variety of animals is to be expected.
