Job Summary:
The Radiology Technologist (R.T.), under minimum supervision, performs a variety of duties in the department as a member of the surgical team. The R.T. performs X-ray and fluoroscopy procedures in the operating and special procedure rooms. The R.T. is responsible for the processing of any films and for maintaining and documenting equipment in proper calibration. May assist in the opening of the supplies/equipment for surgical and special procedure cases. May assist in the preparation of cases by picking cases. May also participate in instrument processing as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ability to perform all radiology functions according to Center policies and procedures
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate sterile and aseptic technique
- Ability to manage radiology equipment in the operating rooms during a surgical procedure in a manner that assures maintenance of the sterile field
- Knowledge of, and ability to, disinfect and clean all radiology equipment
- Ability to operate all radiology equipment used in the Center
- Ability to prioritize and have excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in stressful situations
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work with others within a team environment
- Loading and operation of washer-sterilizers, dryers, ultrasonic cleaners and sterilizers
- Adherence to standards of practice/infection control for the department and operating room
- Works in a spirit of teamwork and trust; professionally conducts self and maintains professional boundaries in working with others
- Acts in a way that is respectful to patients, families, and co-workers at all times
- Other duties as assigned by OR Clinical or supervisor on duty
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, o crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Normal hospital environment with exposure to chemical odors, cleaning solvents, and other hazardous materials.
- Exposure to possible injury when working with electrical equipment and lasers which requires care and following proper safety procedures.
Sedentary Primarily sitting/lifting 10 lbs maximum
Light Lifting 20 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs
Medium Lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs

Bloodborne Pathogens:
Based on the OSHA guidelines for protection against occupational exposure to Hepatitis and HIV, this position is described as Category I. This means that this position has exposure to blood and body fluids. Policies are in place for Universal Precautions identifying exposure risks and appropriate barrier protection.

Education, Experience, Licensure/certification requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited training program. A.A.R.T. Certification required
- Minimum two years of radiology technologist experience required. Experience with special procedures preferred
- Successful completion of BLS
