Job Description – Head Custodian/Maintenance
Department: Operations Reports To: Director of Operations
Work Year: 12-month Hours/Position: Full-time/Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Head Custodian at Yi Hwang Academy of Language Excellence serves as the custodial leader, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe facility for students, staff, and the public. This role involves overseeing equipment and furniture arrangements for various activities, minimizing property damage and liability exposure, ensuring timely completion of assignments, and supervising and supporting assigned custodians
General Duties/Responsibilities:
- Facility Preparation: Arrange and set up furnishings and equipment for various activities.
- Training: Attend in-service training for updated procedures.
- Cleaning: Maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment in all assigned areas.
- Coordination: Schedule and coordinate events, ensuring facility and equipment availability.
- Distribution: Deliver supplies, packages, and furniture as needed.
- Supervision: Direct and support custodial staff to ensure efficient operations.
- Communication: Provide information to students, staff, and supervisors regarding activities and maintenance.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect facilities for safety, cleanliness, and necessary repairs.
- Maintenance: Ensure the availability and proper maintenance of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Participation: Attend meetings to gather and convey necessary information.
- Coverage: Perform duties of other custodial positions as needed.
- Daily Operations: Prepare facilities for daily operations, ensuring functionality and security.
- Documentation: Prepare necessary documentation to support custodial activities.
- Emergency Response: Address immediate safety and operational concerns promptly.
- Security: Secure facilities and grounds to minimize property damage and ensure safety.
- Equipment Use: Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools safely.
- Chemical Safety: Use appropriate cleaning chemicals safely and according to regulations.
- Custodial Tasks: Perform routine custodial tasks such as emptying waste receptacles, washing windows, dusting, and sanitizing restrooms.
- Physically Demanding Tasks: Perform tasks requiring heavy custodial equipment and physical effort.
- Tool Maintenance: Clean and maintain custodial equipment and storage areas.
- Reporting: Report equipment malfunctions and facility maintenance needs to the supervisor.
- Routine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on custodial equipment and facility fixtures.
- Teamwork: Work independently or as part of a custodial team for major projects or seasonal preparations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Criminal History, Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
- Ability to read technical information, create documents, and facilitate group discussions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Previous experience in a custodial or maintenance position, in a lead or supervisory role
- Knowledge of the working methods and procedures used in cleaning and minor maintenance of buildings
- Knowledge of the qualities and uses of custodial supplies and equipment
- Knowledge of care and cleaning of various types of heating and ventilation equipment
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations applicable to schools and related buildings
- Ability to plan and organize the work of self and others involved in the custodial care of buildings
- Ability to assign, train, and coordinate the work of the custodial crew
- Ability to give and follow verbal and written instructions and directions and use a computer
Physical Demands:
- Ability to exert heavy physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting (20-50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds).
