Ministry Description: Making Teenage Disciples. Taking a comprehensive approach to the development and implementation of the youth ministry at all levels in the connectional system of the United Methodist Church and in all ministry areas of the local church. This comprehensive approach is based on the understanding of the primary task of youth ministry to:
- love and support youth for where and who they are
- encourage youth in developing their relationship to God
- provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth
- challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and world
- Provides Christian leadership and role modeling for students in grades 6th through 12th grade; extend this ministry role as appropriate to college students, young adults, parents, and families
- Be an advocate for youth and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of youth in the local church and community
- Plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach
- Support ongoing, emerging, and new youth ministries that invite member and non-member youth into a growing relationship with Christ
- Lead Youth Worship and provide direction to the Youth Worship Band
- Manage a cycle of disciple building and empowering youth events and activities including large and small group fellowship activities, Bible studies, retreats, summer camps, service projects and mission trips
- Make yourself available to youth in a variety of ways (i.e.attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc.)
- Coordinate and teach Confirmation classes in partnership with the pastor and provide leadership for confirmands, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom
- Provide leadership opportunities to youth and encourage their emerging gifts and nurture their potential
- Recruit and provide leadership, guidance, and support for adult youth ministry volunteers
- Manage youth resources and assets; prepare and manage budget in accordance with the financial guidelines of PUMC; develop and implement fundraising strategies; participate in annual audit
- Build and maintain relationships with young adults, encouraging and supporting their continued growth, involvement, and leadership at PUMC. Implement and support ministries that strengthen young adult discipleship and relationships. Develop opportunities for young adults to serve in appropriate roles within the youth ministry, and advocate for their involvement in all areas.
- With pastoral support, serve as liaison with Scouting groups connected with PUMC
- Participate amicably and cooperatively with pastors and staff in support of the vision and ministries of PUMC; integrate the youth program into the mainstream life of PUMC
- Communicate in a timely manner, and as effectively as possible, using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.). Ensure communication with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation.
- Support and guide the work of the Youth Council or equivalent body in an annual process of evaluating the vision and goals of the youth ministry and directing monthly planning sessions
- Other duties as the ministry requires
- Five or more years of youth leadership experience strongly preferred
- Must embrace Christian discipline and the United Methodist doctrine and theology with a heart for youth ministry
- Must have a vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry within the parameters of the United Methodist Church
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills
- Must possess a proven ability to lead and work with youth, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers
- Should possess the ability to build strong relationships
- Ability to effectively recruit volunteers
- Modeling a strong personal faith
- Ability to collaborate with PUMC staff, pastors, parents, and parishioners
- Christian Education at the college level is preferred

Salary : $45,000 - $55,000
