Position: Summer Camp Media Specialist
Status: Seasonal, Exempt
General Function:. The Y is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Responsible for capturing and sharing the story of camp, the Media Specialist oversees the collection, editing, and distribution of media content for YMCA Camp Bernie’s summer programs. This role involves photographing and filming daily activities, producing engaging photo and video content, and assisting in maintaining Camp Bernie’s social media presence. Additionally, the Media Specialist assists the Program Director and Summer Camp Coordinators with marketing efforts, communication with camper families, and supporting the overall camp experience through digital storytelling.
Compensation & Benefits
· Reports to: Summer Camp Director and Coordinators
· Duration: Seasonal, June 6 – August 22
· Housing: Included, most meals provided as well.
· Compensation: $435/week housing/food.
Essential Functions
· Media Creation & Content Management: Capture, edit, and organize high-quality photos and videos that highlight the summer camp experience. Ensure media is engaging, dynamic, and representative of YMCA Camp Bernie’s programs and culture

· Digital Storytelling & Marketing Support: Work with the Program Director and Summer Camp Coordinators to craft compelling visual content that showcases camp life, special events, and camper experiences. Assist in creating marketing materials for camper recruitment and promotional efforts.
· Photo Distribution & Session Recaps:
o Upload and manage daily photo albums on BAND to provide families with real-time glimpses into camp life.
o Produce weekly recap videos and slideshows for each session.
o Take and print cabin group photos for all campers.
o Organize and upload media content to the shared camp marketing drive for archival and promotional use.
· Coordination & Scheduling: Communicate with camp leadership to develop a daily photography and video schedule that highlights key activities, camper engagement, and special moments.
· Support of Camp Operations: Assist with office duties, camp logistics, and programming as needed. Help with weekly camp setup and breakdown.
· Community Engagement & Relationship Building: Enhance camper and staff engagement through BAND, social media, and digital outreach to create a lasting connection between families and camp.
Qualifications:
· Educational Background: High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in media production, communications, or photography preferred.
· Experience: Previous experience in photography, videography, or social media content creation preffered. Experience in a camp or outdoor setting is a plus.
· Photography & Editing Skills: Proficiency in photography and basic editing.
· Certifications: CPR/AED/First Aid certification required (can be obtained through Camp Bernie). Must complete required state background checks and clearances.
· Innovation & Creativity: Ability to capture and tell compelling stories through visual media. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
· Technical Proficiency: Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) and cloud storage solutions. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.
· Physical Stamina: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and move across uneven terrain.
· Residence: on property preferred, commuters may need to work some weekend and evening hours.
Note: Some physical requirements of this position could be endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs; willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc. dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing.
