Camp MOE is a day camp for boys and girls, ages 5 – 14. Diversity and Respect are the backbone of Camp MOE. Located on over 165 acres of beautiful woods in Litchfield County, complete with fields, trails and our beautiful waterfront.
The mission of Camp MOE is to provide an ideal outdoor recreation environment where all campers with or without disabilities have the opportunity to develop friendships, leadership skills, responsibility for self and respect for others. Waterfront Coordinator
The Waterfront Coordinator is responsible for the implementation, evaluation, and continual improvement of the swimming curriculum, as well as managing campers while they are in instructional and open swim, and for the maintenance and cleanliness of all waterfront equipment and areas. Above all else, the Waterfront Coordinator is responsible for the safety of all individuals on the waterfront and for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the NW CT YMCA are conveyed.
Qualifications
- Must have appropriate background and training in running or assisting in running a waterfront.
- Current certification in Lifeguarding (with Waterfront)/First Aid/AED/CPR for the Professional Rescuer required.
- Current certification in Lifeguard Instructor and YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor (preferred).
- Must be 20 years of age with 2 years experience as a lifeguard supervising children.
- Must be Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
- Must demonstrate the core values of the YMCA which are Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that, above all else, campers are safe and well supervised while present at the program area.
- Implement and evaluate the swimming curriculum and oversee swimming instruction.
- Ensure that all campers are receiving quality swim instruction, complete and submit all Red Cross and YMCA paperwork in a timely manner.
- Work with the Camp Director to schedule all waterfront activities; ensure that all lifeguarding ratios are followed.
- Supervise and evaluate all lifeguarding staff; ensure that all lifeguards are attired properly, using a guard tube, and utilizing proper guarding techniques.
- Run periodic in-service trainings for lifeguards.
- Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.
- Ability to reason, solve problems and make sound decisions even when distracted by noise and activity.
- Observe and promote safety and security procedures.
- Maintain equipment, dock, swimming storage areas, boathouse, and surrounding areas in a clean and orderly manner.
- Promote the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Carry out other duties as assigned to assure the overall success of the camp and its programs.
- May need small craft certification and to review ACA standards if applicable.
- Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times.
* Be available for the entire camp season and to attend all staff trainings sessions before and during camp season.
