What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director - Camp Foss (Overnight Camp) position at YMCA Camping Services?
This position supports the work of The Granite YMCA, a leading nonprofit organization in New Hampshire committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We are seeking an experienced professional with supervisory skills and overnight camp experience to serve as the next Executive Director at YMCA Camp Foss, a traditionally all-girls overnight camp.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business, or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience at an overnight camp.
- Three or more years of management experience, including roles like Executive Director, Camp Director, Operations Director, or Assistant Camp Director.
- Ability to oversee total camp operations, including volunteer development, staff supervision, budget development and monitoring, as well as marketing and program development.
- Must meet the requirements of a Camp Director as outlined by the American Camp Association (ACA) and the State of New Hampshire.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups across social and economic segments.
- Proven track record in building authentic relationships with staff, volunteers, and community members.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification or willingness to obtain within one year.
Essential Job Functions:
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise camp leadership staff, fostering a strong commitment to building genuine relationships.
- Develop and manage the camp’s operating budget, ensuring proactive monthly forecasting to meet or exceed annual budget targets.
- Implement high-quality, relationship-based member engagement strategies and model these skills in interactions.
- Ensure compliance with state of New Hampshire regulations and ACA standards.
- Reside on-site during the camp season (Mid-May to Mid-September) to oversee the program for campers aged 7 to 15.
- Maintain safety and high-quality standards for camp facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Collaborate with the Advisory Board Chair on board development and diverse leader recruitment for fundraising and strategic goals.
- Work with the Camp Enrollment Coordinator to maintain positive communication with camper families, staff, and alumni throughout the year, utilizing email campaigns, newsletters, and planned events.
- Cultivate collaborative relationships with community agencies in the service delivery area.
- Coordinate marketing and communication efforts with the VP of Marketing to effectively communicate the camp’s community impact.
- Support the broader objectives of The Granite YMCA.

This position is a full time, year-round Executive position that must live on site in Strafford (beginning in May and ending in October) at an all girl’s overnight camp.
