The YMCA of Austin is now hiring camp staff who are looking to make differences in the lives of children throughout central Texas. These paid positions provide enriching, safe, and memorable camp experiences to thousands of youth. Job Description:
Camp staff works at an assigned summer day camp for 10-12 weeks. Each weekday, camp staff work a 6-8 hour shift, depending on camp enrollment and field trip and swimming schedules.
Staff members lead enrichment activities such as arts, health and wellness, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities, sports, literacy, and songs/skits. Camp staff also leads field trips and trips to the pool. Camp staff are required to actively swim with Y campers during free swim and to assist Y swim instructors during swim lessons.
Positions include Site Director, Assistant Site Director, and Counselors. Responsibilities include supervision of children, implementation of daily activities in curriculum, and communication with parents. Additional responsibilities of leadership include staff supervision, creation of weekly activity plans, and managing staff schedules.
All staff members receive pre-summer training and continuing education. Pre-camp training is mandatory and will start May 13th.
Camp Details
Summer Camp runs Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 6:00 pm daily, from May 28th through August 14th. Camps are located across Travis, Hays, and Bastrop counties and include Kinder Camps (4-5 yr olds), Theme Camps (5-12 yr olds), Sports Camps (8-12 yr olds), and Adventure Camps (11-14 yr olds).
Pay rate (based on experience and job function):
- Counselors $11.00-$12.00 per hour
- Assistant Site Director $12.00-$13.00 per hour
- Site Directors $13.00 per hour based on experience and job function
Requirements:
- Minimum of 18 years of age (21 for leadership positions)
- High school graduate
- Responsible, punctual, creative, energetic, fun and organized
- Attend certification courses in CPR, First Aid, and Basic Water Rescue after hiring
- Attend pre-summer trainings in late May
- Great communicator with excellent customer service skills
- Child care or camp experience preferred (1 year of experience for leadership positions)
- Reliable transportation to attend work
